This happens a lot and there are a lot of variables. The lighting and amount the clam is open affects the pattern. The part you circle might only be that way at the exact amount of extension at the moment in that photo. More or less would distort the pattern

Not to beat a dead horse. But as everyone else said..clam patterns are extremely variable based on the photo angle, lighting and the extension of the mantle... you are comparing a photo from the supplier with a fully extended mantle...i still see shell in all the photos youve taken which leads me to believe its not open all the way or at a different angle. That said, i think the one on the left has a much more desirable pattern:beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Definitely the same clam. Even if it was not (I truly believe it is), it's so similar I'm confused as to what the issue would be? I don't mean that in a flippant way. WYSIWYG should definitely be 1 for 1, I understand and agree, I just don't know what kind of remedy you would want to seek when they're so nearly identical.

The red circled part can be seen in the photo on the right, just a little more stretched, which is normal for clams as they open and close, as others said. You can see the spot where the lines don't quite meet in both images. I think the image from the seller is just more saturated, resulting in blurring/blending of the pattern.

I'm a clam geek & the patterns vary hugely depending on angle, camera, light etc etc.
It's a beautiful maxima either way so don't worry too much.

I agree with others. Same clam. I swear they can look different every single day and in every photo. Small changes are normal. Good looking healthy clam. I’d be thrilled.

I also think it is the same clam, just at different degrees of open. Take a freckle on your skin and stretch the skin around it. The freckle size and shape changes.
If it’s a beautiful, healthy clam, what possible motive would the seller have to switch them out?

It's the same fish - heading in different direction.

LOL

P.S. It's a joke.
I think there's a little more blue light in the second picture though.

Turn on the white intensity on the light and they will look the same. Trust me I have done it! My claims go from black to red all the time, and the red to black. ;)

These "I didn't get my WYSIWYG clam" threads are becoming common.

Given that clams really never look the same twice and there is no chance that the clam in your tank will ever match the photo you used to choose it to begin with... does it ever matter?

Nothing you don't already know but photo post processing with a pinch of high hobbyist attrition rate.

I was also going to say unrealistic expectations or a generational thing but that may come across as me being an poo head.

I would not think the seller did it intentionally. I am just thinking they don't look quite the same. That is all this thread is about and most of people think it looked the same which is fair enough.

They are the same clam. I challenge you to match any two photos of the same clam, taken at different times and the same angle, let alone at different angles and with different lighting :)

What is the whole point WYSIWYG then? Isn't that people get what they saw?
