Hey Everyone!

My Waterbox Frag 105.4 just shipped so I figured I’d start a build thread as these tanks are new and I haven’t seen one yet on R2R. This is also my first build thread, so take it easy.

I currently have 30L that's been up and running for about a year now. This is my second time with the 30L, I originally ran it also for a little over a year, but moved the family, so I gave away all my livestock and started over a few months after getting into the new house. After this last year had past I decided I wanted to go bigger and have something with a real sump not just my AIO sump in the back. Once the new system is up with everything the way I want it, I will transfer everything to the new tank.

I’ve been a big fan of a lot of shallow lagoon style builds and wanted to do something similar, so the hunt for a new tank began. I really liked the footprint of the Deep Blue/Seapora 80 gallons and originally wanted to go that route, but I had heard the quality just wasn’t quite what I wanted my next tank to be. That landed me on the Waterbox Frag 80.4. Unfortunately, it had just been discontinued, which made it very difficult to find, plus it was 12 inches tall and I thought that might be a little lower than I wanted anyways. It all turned out for the better though, because Waterbox relaunched the Frag line with an identical footprint to the 48”x24”x16” 80 gallon tanks I’d been looking at. Woohoo!

I thought I’d have a little more time to prep everything so I’ve been taking it slow, but instead of the 8-12 week wait I expected, it shipped in about 4. Not the end of the world as I started cycling new dry rock in a brute can after the purchase anyways. But I still need to get a few more pieces together.

Current Updated Equipment List:
  • 60 lbs of CaribSea LifeRock and LifeRock Shapes (Cycled with Fritz and Dr. Tims Ammonium Chloride in a Brute can)
  • 80 lbs Fiji Pink dry sand
  • MarinePure Spheres in sump
  • BRS 6 Stage RODI 200 GPD
  • Tropic Marin Pro Reef Salt (I’ve used Red Sea Coral Pro in the past, but wanted to try something different in a lower Alk range)
  • Waterbox Frag 105.4 Tank (Dimensions 48”x24”x16” comes with stand and sump so good to go there)
  • 3 x AI Hydra 32HD with HMS mounts(I bought the Plus version of the tank so it came with 2 and I will just purchase another for better coverage)
  • 2x AI Nero 5 pumps
  • Ecotech M2 Return
  • Red Sea RSK 300 Skimmer (Removed)
  • 2 Finnex titanium 300w heaters and the BRS controller
  • Refugium (coming soon)
  • Ecotech Versa Doser ATO (Will run Alk, Ca, Mg, and whatever else I need or want to add when the time comes for dosing. Again, mainly because it’s within the Mobius controller)
  • Replace Filter socks with media cups so I can run floss.
  • Lifegard 55 watt UV Sterilizer (coming soon)

I’ll post some photos of a few different aqua scapes I played around with. I want to keep that multiple island lagoon style that the fish can swim around instead of just going back and forth.

I’ll keep updating as the tank and more equipment arrive. Should be here next week sometime. If you have any questions and any advice for my upgrade let me know, I’d appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

Apologies on the lighting and poor tape placement, mainly just trying to get an idea.

4. I really liked this one, but maybe for another tank down the road as it was too high and didn’t give me the lagoon feeling I was going for.

Awesome tank I was so bummed when they discontinued the first line of frags, but jumped on it as soon as I find out the new line was released. All for the better since they maybe then a little taller. how long ago did you order if you don't mind me asking? Ordered mine about a month ago and can't wait. I'll be following along.

Yea that extra height will open up a lot of possibilities. I ordered mine 12/24, so exactly one month and I got shipping notification.

So apparently it arrived in town earlier than expected and UPS tracking says they tried to call me for a delivery appointment, but I never received any call , so I contacted them and should know by tomorrow when it will be delivered. Maybe they'll be able to do it same day? if not I'll have Thursday off as planned and hopefully can get it then.

It has arrived! Everything seems to be in good shape too, I’ll have to dig a little deeper and get it all out to make sure though.

Waterbox’s FAQ says the lights should be with the tank order, but nothing was in mine? Hopefully they weren’t lost and it was just a mistake or they’re shipping it out at a different time. I sent the support team a request, but it says their offices are closed for the next few days due to the family reunion. Anybody else know how it’s supposed to ship?

From what I've heard they ship separate. I've seen some get the lights way before the tank came too

Have the tank unpacked yet? Currently tankless the past year and eager to jump back in. Debating on the 105 and 85 frag. My last tank was a 50 breeder not sure I want to make the jump to a 48”, but the 105 looks so good

Cabinet and sump are in so far, but I had to move my other tank over so I could put this in the same spot and that took a little bit since I didn’t have any help. Should have tank up this week if work time permits and should be running next week hopefully .

Edit: Nevermind, it’s where the doors go.

So I brought the tank inside in the crate and started unboxing. I noticed the leveling mat doesn’t go all the way to front. Is that normal for Waterbox tanks? Or is this where the front cabinet doors would sit which is why it’s empty? My IM 30L is the only one I can reference and the bottom is completely covered. Should I find a mat and cut a strip to cover that spot and support the front pane?

Tank on stand, what a difference going from 36” to 48”. I’m gonna have to rearrange some pictures and my mirror to line up properly so they don’t get in the way of the light mounts.

I’ve added some leds to help light up the sump cabinet and 3d printed a small filter floss cup since I hate dealing with filter socks.

Going to start working on a backing for the cabinet to protect the outlets behind, and I will make a controller board for the smaller compartment as well.

Looking good! How do you like the 16 inch depth? Also, how thick is the glass?

Also, per Waterbox the lights are supposed to come with everything and apparently were lost in transit. They’re going to contact UPS to see if they can find it before they deem it lost, hopefully this doesn’t take very long.
