The Idea

The idea for this build is to have a shallow tank in my room. I have a 90g in my basement along with a 12g nanocube in my room. The nanocube just isn't doing it for me, little space... the big reason for change is i want a sump...so upgrade!

The Tank

I live in michigan and actually live close to a tank manfu. but sadly they were taking a long time to respond to emails so i started suffering the web and decided on a Deep Blue Aquarium. Went with the dims 24x24x12, corner overflow, rimless, black silicon. I got it from a local LFS here in michigan (fish doctors) they hooked me up and basically the tank cost 200$... not bad.

Equipment

As far as equipment goes:
  • Lights will be a DIY LED fixture from rapid LED
  • Skimmer is a bubble magus NAC6
  • Return was gonna be a quietone 3000 but had to make due with a atman 2500 that i got with the skimmer as a spare
  • flow is gonna be a koralie 1400 during cycling and than ill be getting a MP10, might use the 1400 on the back wall...dunno
  • substrate is Special grade from marinedepot
  • Reefkeeper lite for a controller, going to use the ALC to dim the leds.
    • Note: The instructions that come with the reef keeper suck, my only complaint, im thankful that they have a forum on their website that you can ask questions or seak out write ups or i would have been lost wiring the LEDs to the ALC and getting them to ramp in and out properly.
  • Stand will be DIY
  • 50lbs of rock from Macro Rocks
  • Sump will have rock/cheato

Progress

Ill use this area for progress i've made with the build, since im up to the point of mixing salt and gonna start cycling.

The pictures really speak for themselves.
Really no step by step shots of the builds but you've seen them all before.

stand bare with kilz on it and in place. not much room in my room but whatever. i only sleep in it/play video games. dont worry about the window i never open the shade, my mom decided to do it and i warned her to not when the tank has stuff in it.

Got the leds somewhat mounted. only a temp hanging solution. and wires need to be managed. Plus i dont like the heigh so i had to buy another pipe.

Let the filling begin!!! Changed the height of the fixture like i wanted, also painted it. Than ran the wires through the pipe down through teh stand, looks 1000000 times better i think.

Set up looks great!!

Just purchased my DB 30 rimless Monday, $177 out the door including the plumbing kit! Can't wait to get it going as soon as the stand is built.
