Now how many times have I said, I’m not buying any more established coral colonies because they just do not survive long term. On average 2-3 months if your lucky

Im adamant they come from someone’s tank into the LFS, the water is changed and then they slowly die off. I have absolutely no problem keeping SPS or anything else in my new tank from Frags.

So here’s a picture of the brain coral that was added around 9th February 2020 and you can see what’s happening to it today 20th April and this was £120 worth.

Ive moved it a few times to alter flow, but to no avail and all water parameters are spot on so.....

Shaun, DO NOT EVER BUY ESTABLISHED COLONIES AGAIN!!

I really enjoyed looking through your build, the tank is looking great!

As far as the brain goes I think it is still salvageable. I would suggest spot feeding it nightly (turning off power heads to allow you to coat feeder tentacles in a mix of small particulate foods) and take pictures 1x/week (or bi-weekly) to document tissue growth/recession. Most anthozoans utilize heterotrophic feeding to meet metabolic energy needs more heavily than I think many aquarists give credit to or maybe realize. Most people tend to think of anthozoans as gaining the majority of their metabolic energy via autotrophy (just my observation over the years). I hope this colony survives!

Thank you, thanks for stopping by and for the advice, it certainly makes sense definitely

The only problem with feeding at night, is I can’t normally talk, never mind standing on one leg hanging into the tank to feed a coral! lol

I have all the gear for spot feeding and have done it in the past, but I now generally follow the principal of ‘survival of the fittest’. I do feed Reef Energy mixed with Reef Roids around once a week in the new system but on a broadcast feed basis

The brain coral was an ‘impulse buy’ I don’t normally buy these types and definitely no more large colonies (Shaun note to ones self NONE!lol)

This short video is of Sunrise in the Red Sea Max S650 at just approaching 4 years old

Shaun

Love your video from about the 2:30 mark and on, when you close in on your left side.

Just amazing to watch, and thanks for taking the time.

Gotcha, I understand. Broadcast feeding is also a great way to go, with such low nutrients you could up feeding to bi-nightly and watch nutrients to be sure it doesn't create excess nitrates/phosphates. It may be more work than you're looking for, but I highly suggest hatching brine shrimp nauplii and gut loading them with phytoplankton (feed after 36-48hrs). In past aquariums this has yielded the highest coral growth and coloration for me, I need more in my current system before I start feeding them again.

I think you can make colonies work, maybe this will turn the tides for you ;)

Thanks Freddie, the left side is my favourite as well, I think it’s because it’s more built up and more condensed corals etc.

I’ve actually been looking at the JBL Artemis set for a while for breeding brine shrimp, but I get back to the ‘can I be bothered’ and so far no ! Lol. I like the idea of gut loading them though, that’s a great idea.

I haven't seen that setup before, it looks really good. San Francisco Bay has come out with a new hatchery (in the past few years) that is supposed to eliminate egg shells so you don't have to worry about them. However you can also buy decapsulated eggs as well. Thanks, I got the process for gut loading from Dr. Ron Shimek back in the day when the Marine Depot forums were still a thing!

I just starting dozing off watching those videos Shaun. Beautiful. Zen. The 650 is gorgeous. Cannot wait for the new one to go nuts.
Thanks Rich, it’s beautiful at sunrise as everything comes alive, and also in the evening when the whole room goes blue with both systems.

As I’ve said before, I miss everything on the TV and have to watch it again!

Nice video, as usual, Shaun, with exception to the abrupt ending. Nothing like just starting to get into the relaxation of a video with soothing music and then BAM! THE END.

It was a great opportunity to insert the song below but the one you used was okay too.

I'll be becoming more and more scarce moving forward but will do my best to drop by and harass and harangue you. I mean, I know how much you enjoy my cheekiness (and I'm not referring to my back side!)

Stay happy and healthy!

Oh my sore bottom! Lol

I went out for the first time on my new chariot a few days ago, twice infact, and OMG the seat! I had to change it to a normal unisex wider seat today (for big lads/gals backsides!) and it’s so much better

https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bi...lookin-relaxed-unisex-bike-saddle-133424.html

I can’t believe the difference it’s made!

I’ll make you laugh, I was going up a really steep hill panting and spluttering and I could hear some bikers coming up fast behind so tried to look cool and breath normally whilst going very slow.... This women and man went wizzing by up hill and I’m like what the...... Then she turned round laughing and said, don’t worry these are part electric bikes! Lol.

Tell you what, you could cover miles on those, although it’s not the same,

She just told you they were electric to make you feel better! Not electric at all!;) And @crusso1993 you didn't ask permission to leave so it's denied!
