I think that is why most people recommend the Hanna ULR phosphorus checker. It is +/- 5ppb phosphorus which is 0.015ppm PO4. The Red Sea may be +/- 0.02ppm but that is using a non-included photo sensor to determine color. it doesn't take into account interpretation error by the user.

Yes that’s very true, my eye is now the photo sensor with a wide error margin!

The Red Sea phosphate test arrived today, it’s better than the original one I used.

The test came out at about 0.06ppm, Hanna was showing 0.08 so a slight difference I guess. I’ve got both again now anyway, I just wanted to check if the Hanna was out or not.

Wonderful shot! I've been trying to get a good picture of my Bimacs but they are so active they are hard to photograph. You did good!

Thanks

They can be very difficult to shoot.

I posted these before and was quiet pleased with them

Here’s a little picture of one of my five remaining Chromis

They are a decent size now and look very pretty under the lights especially in the evenings

Great Flame Angel, I got one in my tank as well. I really need to get camera. What do you think about Canon EOS 800D? Considering I am a photo newbie and this camera checks my boxes for me, but would like a confirmation from someone who knows what is he doing with cameras. :)

Well I use the Canon EOS 750D so I guess the 800 is basically the same and certainly I’m very pleased with it.

Most if not all of the pictures on this page were taken with the standard Canon lens. The ones below were taken with the Canon Macro lens. This can cost more than the camera but if you shop around you can get one much cheaper that what’s shown here. I paid about £550 GBP from an importer, new.

When I purchased the camera, to become a ‘marine photographer’ (!lol) I studied a few books and also the very helpful app from Canon that shows you what to do.

I also purchased the electronic version of ‘how to create stunning digital photography’ by Tony Northrup which is very good and comes linked to videos and all sorts. It also shows you how to use your camera in detail on the video links.

And even closer...

Shaun,
Great info, I guess it is a time to get a camera and start learning. :)
I purchased my equipment originally for a trip to the Galápagos Islands were I’m going in about 4 weeks, but also discovered it takes very good pictures of my fish tank! Lol

I usually play around with it on rainy days when I can’t go golfing, it’s quiet enjoyable actually as you learn to use the camera. That Tony Northrup book is well worth buying and you can read some of the sections as you go.

You will also need some form of basic editing software. I just transfer the pictures to my iPad to adjust the light/colour as necessary. This makes a ‘dramatic’ difference to the final pictures.
