Beautiful. LPS for sure, but Lobophyllia surprised me.

Could be anything! Lol

I think someone told me it was, and before I posted I looked at some pictures of them, but my brain won’t ‘compute’ coral names ! Lol

I prefer scientific names. Perhaps I am just a nerd, but that is how things were thirty years ago when I started learning marine. That seems to have held up for fish, but is getting lost in the coral marketplace.

I think part of it is (you think I am about to say marketing, but... ) when a fish is named by species you know all of the fish in that species will look about the same. Maybe some differences in age or sex, but it is predictable. Percula and ocellaris perhaps have been bred beyond recognition, hence we have had to create designer names.

The same thing is true for corals. The species of a coral can cover a wide range of colors. The growth, behaviors and skeletons are the same, but they are primarily priced and sold based on their coloring. That is acceptable to me, but should augment the species identification, not replace it. Are you listening vendors!

I know everyone likes pictures so here’s a group of full tank shots from the very start of the adventure up to date

Its quiet a dramatic change since the system was set up in June 2016

You can also see the decline in the patches of green star polyps in the final few shots, after they were savaged by the asterina starfish, but since the addition of 2 harlequin shrimps, the colonies are starting to recover nicely

Just amazing! Was it hard to eradicate the GSP that was in the middle?

Thank you!

And how eagle eyed of you to spot it was missing ! Lol

Well I’ll tell you how I did it The GSP was actually very easy to eradicate. I somehow gained a swarm of GSP eating asterina starfish that developed a taste for GSP and then proceeded to eat all my corals including GSP, SPS etc. I had to introduce 2 harlequin shrimp to get them under control and it’s now starting to grow back. Well everywhere apart from the middle! I’ve stuck a couple of pieces back and they keep blowing off so it’s on the ‘to do a little better’ list!

So beware of sweet white little starfish!

Laughing out loud. Yeah that was quite the ballsy attempt to get rid of GSP.. but it worked!

That was a funny can of worms [emoji13]
