Rock is in. This is 35 lbs of TBS base rock. I have another 35 lbs of their premium rock coming in 10 days. Once the tank is cycled I’ll add batch two. The difference between live and fake rock is amazing.

Lots more to organize below. My plan is to hide all components and ATO in the two baskets below for a clean look. Also waiting on custom brackets to mount my AI primes on the bar. Will likely lower as well.
Looks fantastic! Love the dimensions

Love the rock - so glad I went this route. Can’t beat the biodiversity. Any idea what these white jelly-like things are? I’m guessing coral.

I’ll post a full tank shot as soon as the debris settles and water clears.

Difficult to see, but probably a solitary tunicate and lower photo is tube coral. Both will like lower light and good flow.

I must admit that i am a little jealous of the live rock build. My first tank was all live rock and i loved the diversity. My second build was going to be from TB saltwater but it was in the middle of changing hands, and they were closed for business at that time so i went the dry rock route:confused-face:. I guess i will wait for tank #3... dont tell the wife.

Interesting build so far, i will be following along for the fun!

Later days,

B-Kind

few quick shots of the tank. Everything has been transferred from the old tank including old live rock. The tank did not see much if any of a cycle with this rock. Took these shots this AM so things are just starting to wake up. Really glad I went peninsula style - not sure which side is my fav but it's like having 2 tanks in one.

I'm going to have to evaluate flow on the peninsula side since my mp40s are running on a low setting so they don't churn up the sand. may need one more powerhead on the far side but we will see how things go.

New tank shots and updates. I switched my mp40s to short pulse mode. This slowed the intensity of the flow and actually allows me to run them at a higher power percentage without blowing the tank away. The flow seems much more harmonious and extends the length of it.

I purchased a custom lid and used it for a few months but have since removed it. The tank looks so much better open and I can’t say I’ve seen evaporation rates improve with it. Also switched my HMS rail to the hanging kit and lowered the light closer to the surface. It gives a much cleaner look and it’s one less thing on the glass. I’ve been leaning into softies and hardier SPS. I have a few acros but will likely give the tank more time to mature before adding more. I always thought softy tanks were highly underrated and beautiful if done right. I’m working on slowly stocking and filling in the gaps. Seeing solid growth from what I have.

my fox face is prob my favorite fish at the moment along with my 6 line wrasse. The larger pictured pocillopora in the sand bed is a new addition I scored for $50 at my LFS. It’s about 5 inches across. The orange lens filter doesn’t really do any coral coloring justice.

I've been battling some gorilla crabs for the past few months and have been slowly removing them from the tank as I catch them. They have taken mega chunks out of a variety of corals overnight. It took me a while to realize what was happening but it became very obvious. Has anyone seen an acro frag chewed down to the base overnight?? No possible other explanation.

Looking great; switching to the ceiling mount is much cleaner looking, awesome peninsula!

Some updates as a lot has changed. A lot of new additions and things are really settling in. My tank is finally at a really stable point where nutrients don't really move and neither does alk. I'm starting to see a lot more demand for calcium. Guessing this is a combo of SPS growth and coralline boom.

Does anyone have tips on making a reef scape not look random in terms of coral placement? I think it's really hard in the beginning because so many frags are small and haven't filled out yet. I have some larger colonies mixed in and it really throws things out of balance. I'm pleased with the progress and obviously do not want to rush anything but that's the only thing that feels off to me.

I picked up some new frags from @BoomCorals this past week and UPS had a hiccup that delayed my shipment. My corals arrived in cold water after 48 hours and miraculously made the journey alive. I only lost 1acro that was DOA. The rest, including 2 acros, are coloring up nicely and seem to be OK. It's actually amazing and a testament to resiliency. Everything that I've gotten from Quinn has done really well in my tank.

Lastly...still working on photographing my tank. I don't think I have the right lens for it but it's really hard to get sharp images and the correct color. If anyone has any tips I'd greatly appreciate it!

EDIT - busted out the tripod and orange filter and took a few more shots... little better.

Bit of an impulse buy but I just added two @Orphek Sky Blue Lights to my tank. I wish I had a picture that did it justice but they really do supply a pop of color while leaving my overall spectrum more or less the same. Slightly more blue but really love the look. It does not look so blue in person. With them off it certainly leaves the tank looking flatter.

Mounted to my HMS rail via hydra 64 mounts. Works like a charm.
