If you check my build thread - it is a different type of shelf. I took two pieces of flat rock (I guess I would it table rock) - that had a middle 'stalk. I bought 2 of them, balancing them with a bridge of GSP in the middle. They are stabilized with small rock in the back - but it gives the illusion of them being 'free-standing'. This leaves about 1.5-2 inches below each piece of rock and almost the entire tank bottom free - to avoid detritus, and allow for more swimming area. On the top of the 2 tables - coral has grown naturally. If a coral happens to die (I've had a couple power and controller issues over the years - I add over the top of the old (for the most part). It has left lots of hiding places and caves, yet excellent flow through the whole tank. Hope this helps
