Saturday marks 3 weeks my Hippo has been in quarantine. So far it has stayed almost entirely in hiding, almost never seen it actually swimming, but it looks healthy, no sign of disease and eats nori by the handful.

It's currently living in a 20 gallon tall QT with 3lbs of rock and pvc pipes.

I'm worried maybe the small tank is stressing it out, and it would be better off if I moved it to my 55. (Don't worry folks, it's only 2" and I have a 265gal that will be setup in November)

Or would moving it to a new tank be even more stressful?

In all my reading about Hippos, I knew they would be shy at first, but never to this extent.

I would agree with moving it too the display if its looking healthy, about the 265gal how much do you expect it will cost full build like with everything rocks fish sand sump equipment? Atleast a couple thousand right?

At least a couple thousand.

I'm going Hawaiian black sand, which will cost ~$300.
200lbs or so of dry rock ~$400
1.25 boxes of Instant Ocean Salt ~$150
Need to source an 80gal or so sump $???
Plumbing for dual overflow $???
Return Pump $300-$400
Lids to block jumpers $???
Couple hydor powerheads $200-$300
Refugium Light $???

Planned Stock List (Unfinished)
2 female Marine Bettas
1 Maroon Clownfish
1 Snowflake Moray
1 Harlequin Tusk
1 Niger trigger
2 Flame Hawkfish
1 Cleaner Wrasse
1 Emperor Angel
1 Blonde Naso Tang
5-6 Lyretail Anthias
1 Bubbletip Anenome

And that's in addition to my
Male Marine Betta
Gray faced Moray
Maroon clown
Hippo tang
Assorted Snails
Tuxedo Urchin

Fairly heavy bioload, but I have a hefty protein skimmer, and lots of room for filtration.

If it is parasite free and eating, give it the go-ahead

Everything looks clear. I'll start ramping down the tank lights so it's not such a big change. I'm hoping both being with other fish and in a bigger tank will help bring it out.
Too beautiful of a fish to spend all day in a tube.

That was from the 17th, and the colour is still the same when I get the odd glimpse, still bright and spot free.
Sounds like this fish is getting an upgrade this weekend.

Reminds me of a line I once heard a coworker say.
"People assume I'm rich because I own an airplane. The truth is, I'm broke. Because I own an airplane". Sort of the same thing here. I would not have that tank if I hadn't gotten a wicked deal used.

And yeah, things can get expensive, but I also live in Canada, while most folks here seem to be from the US, so things are naturally more expensive here.

Is it getting any treatment in the QT? If not, 3 weeks wouldn't be long enough for me.

Just observation. I only just discovered a source of Prazi (banned in Canada...yay). It's like liquid gold, and I don't want to use it if I don't have to.
The lfs had it in copper for a few weeks prior to sale, so I am more watching for internal parasites and infections.

Just remember the black sand is magnetic, brs showed/said something about that in their vid about sand.

Yup, can get caught in mag floats and scratch glass. I made the decision today to skip the Tusk, so I can have a cleanup crew to deal with the algae for me.
As awesome as Harlequin Tusk are, I'd rather not have to clean glass all the time.
Need a step ladder and 3' scraper for that beast.
