On my 20g cube prior to this setup I ran no skimmer. Just rox carbon and phosgaurd.
So its definatly not needed.
2g WC every month.

Hi, You removed the top trim when you removed the hood? Was that difficult?

a skimmer is not a waste of money, it provides good benefits to the tank, especially if you want to get corals later on. I run a aquamaxx 1.5 hob skimmer on my 32.

EDIT: I never used the coralife biocube skimmer, but I did use the coralife hob skimmer for about 2 years, it was a good reliable skimmer, but needed frequent 'tuning'.

Its up to you when you get a skimmer, I like to get it on and turn it on right away, it gives time for the machine to break in, also gives you a chance to learn how it works, and tune it in the way that you want.

Anyone know if you can remove the biocube 32 rim with a full tank? Is it a difficult process?

I have a IM15 so no hood. Will drop in my aio chamber. I’ll probably go with this skimmer.
Hi will, similar boat…I have the IM 20 peninsula, and have this one and the reef glass model from brs on my wishlist. Maybe you know more, the aqua max says it’s a HOB but you wrote you’ll drop into the aio chamber. Is it both and I missed that detail?

Bad choice of words. I’ll hanging it off the back of the tank into the aio chamber.

I use the Coralife V2 on my Biocube 32. It does it’s job but my previous 16 years I used a well oversized skimmer which did amazing at pulling out the gunk. Limited for the back chamber of the Biocube. While you’re cycling there really isn’t a lot to skim but as you increase your bio load you can add it, as mentioned above it takes awhile to get it tuned in. Plenty of people on this forum have removed the hood you can search for a thread and there might be video on YouTube.

I’ve found that it works great on my tank ! It will make a lot of micro bubbles the first couple of days, but they soon go away. It just needs a few days to get broken into the tank. Only issue I had was that the air intake hose kept leaking and allowing water in at the base, which was making it not work. I had taken it out and decided that I wasn’t gonna use it. Then someone recommended heating the end of the tube so that it would be pliable and form a tight seal. That worked 100% and I have had great success with it since then. Happy reefing :)

I have a 32 and use a skimmer. I tried the Coralife one and was a waste of money. I have since upgraded to the aquamaxx 1.5 HOB. Works like a champ. My tank looks awesome and is thriving.

Is that light the ai 16 prime? How do you like it? I’m thinking about getting one for my JBJ 28 nano

I've been using the biocube v2 skimmer. Took alittle time to break in and tune, as long as you have good flow through the overflow microbubbles aren't too bad. Have to empty at least once a day, pulls a ton out of my tank but I also have a heavy bioload. 20230418_125640.jpg

Ya it took me months to get it tuned in. It would occasionally get wacky again but tuning it in got much quicker each time. I haven’t had to touch it in about 7 months. I empty it about every 4-5 days.

Yea once the slime formed it really started working well. I could probably get to cup to go longer if I didn't need to feed heavy

Youll be happy with hang on skimmer IceCap K1-50 which looks and runs like a full size skimmer.
Trim can come off but is a pain. You have to cut the silicone all the way across under the trim.
