So I have a 180 gallon tank on order(due to be delivered at the end of the month), but have had rocks cycling in 55 gallon drums for 2 months now to hopefully avoid the ”ugly“ stage and shorten the cycle. I have a 40gl qt tank that I will quarantine all incoming fish for 30 days with copper and prazi. I dosed the rock barrels with Tim’s and bio spira at the start and continue to light feed every two weeks or so. Would I be ok to add some pods and shrimp to these barrels until the tank arrives? Ammonia nitrite and nitrate are stable.

Diatom or the "ugly" will prob still happen as you add lights and flow.

Thank you! As much as my girlfriend hates the 55 gallon barrels in our kitchen, my goal is to shorten much of the common struggles with new tanks and dry rock. The frustrating part is that the tank has been on order since January!

Really good one you got their man. Nice lady. Idk why but i pictured it in the kitchen like in front of the oven or sink. Lol!

Pro tip... See the flowers in the picture? Have the flowers ready before you do something questionable, like putting barrels of rock inside your house, they work wonders lol
