Unfortunately I do not have an external overflow box but instead has a 120 gallon with a big overflow box smack in the center of the tank. The overflow box is black as well as the back wall.
How do you try to hide your overflow box?
1. Magnettic racks with waterproof magnets to be used inside the overflow box?

2. Big wall of flat slabs lean against the overflow wall/box?

3. Let GSP, xenia, Monti caps, zoas grow on the outside of the overflow box?

4. Do nothing and just aquascape as usual exposing the look of the overflow?

I have a 125 with 2 corner overflows. I didn't really do anything to hide them, I figure they'll be covered with coraline algae soon enough. I also was going with minimal rock work for more swimming real estate, so hiding with rocks was out of the question.

If you can look into some of the builds Lasse has on here, he got creative with hiding the entire back wall. It looks natural and clean. If you run into one of his build threads, it’s worth a look.

do it yourself.
My whole aquascape is done with pvc and this two part putty. Very easy to work with.

Is it heavy? How much would it weigh to make the one that is the same size as the one in the video? It looks like the total weight to make that cover is pretty heavy.

I didn’t try to hide mine completely, but trimmed the rock to fit flush against the overflow in order to save room.

Nice. Maybe I can just get some flat slap rock pieces and prop them up against the overflow box all the way up to the top.

I cut mine with a dreamer and tile saw. I don’t think it would look appealing if you placed the double flat sided rocks against it. It would take away from the depth. I did use some of those as my base pieces to stack the main ones on.

estimating from how much I used to make my scape, one gallon unit, which ways 20 pounds before it sets up, would be more than enough. adhering to the acrylic, I wouldn't go thicker than 1/8"-1/4". then it's just how many shelves and ridges you add.

When setting up my tank I flat cut one side of reef rock then siliconed to box. Lots of nooks and crevices for stuff to grow. This has held up pretty well over the course of about 20 yrs. a few fell off but for the most part looks pretty natural.
