I've heard a lot of people getting dyno or cyano when using marco dry rocks. Did you fish cycle or fish-less cycle and how long did it take to cycle?
I did a fishless cycle Brightwells Xl Start ,took about 18 days. At this Point I did not have lights on the tank as they were on a SLOW boat from Australia. I added one fish a Beta. For the next 2 months I kept feeding him heavy and started dosing Microbacter Clean. When the light finally got hear I transferred my small tank over to this one. I put a bunch of rock from that tank into the sump to aid in filtration.
I did get a Dino outbreak about a week in. I blacked out the tank for 5 days only running blue lights for 2 hours in the morning and the in the evening to feed the fish and give some light to the corals. Also I dosed 3% H2O2 at 1ml per 10 gallono every morning . After the 5 days unwrapped the tank started up the normal lighting. No sign of dinos or diatoms.
This is the third tank with Dry rock I have set up with dry rock and every one I have had to do this black out with. But after I have not had a reoccurring event. I do dose microbactor 7 every other day.
