any tips on keeping your seahorses such a beautiful color? Got yellow ones about a year ago and most of them turned grey like the rocks we have within a week. They seem happy, theyve turned more yellowish, orange lately after we introduced yellow chains into the tank but we HATE the artificial yellow chains. They seem happy currently but still just never kept that yellow color. So hard to pick one favorite. Honestly I love all the morays, the garden eels, seahorses, pipefish, the large angels, the dwarf angels, the sohal tang, the wrasses, jawfish, mandarins, and the anthias.

For motile inverts, I'd go with the Caribbean Slipper Lobster (Scyllarides aequinoctialis) because she's gorgeous and so personable.

I understand your dilemma misto101. I kept erectus seahorses and they often came in muted browns or grayish brown. Erectus seahorses will often mute into the colors in their tank. If the tank has rock that is brown the seahorses are likely to stay brownish. By adding more color in the tank, that can encourage more color in the ponies. There are silk ornamentation by Imagitarium that could be mixed with some authentic coral to help ponies color up. Palys are a compatible coral with seahorses. There are fake sponges that come in red and yellow and if they were surrounded by codium (real macroalgae) you could create a tank that does not look fake.@vlangel has knowledge on seahorses.
