Not unless you have extension(s) on your return nozzle and have them pointing super low into the tank. As soon as the water level in the tank reaches the nozzles, then the siphon will break and it will not be able to drain anymore. I mean, Red Sea did not put a check valve on the return from the factory.

Can anyone who owns a Reefer XL 425 tell me the dimensions of the included ATO reservoir and how much open space is above it? From Red Sea's documentation I have been able to determine the sump cabinet interior area measures 29.1" x 21.1" x 29.9" (width, depth, height) and the factory sump measures 27.6" x 19.3" x 16.3". I have not found any published dimensions for the ATO, or at what height it sits on the rails above the sump. I'm most interested in knowing the actual clearance between the top of the ATO and the cabinet ceiling available for lighting if I convert the ATO into a refugium. Anyone out there with a stock XL 425 sump and a tape measure???

I haven't pulled the trigger yet on placing my order for a Reefer XL 425 and would like to soon, but I really want to know all these dimensions to help me plan my design.

    Thanks!

I made minor adjustments. I added a Chaeto reactor, because I'm too lazy to covert the original ATO container to a fuge. For the life of me, I cannot glue the elbow fittings 90 degree, and I have OCD so I added a Union. LOL

Nice use of space buddy. I'm setting up my Reefer 350 now and getting many things together. Do you mind me asking where you bought your dosing pump holder from?

Thanks. It's a bubble magus tray, specific for that Doser. Got it from either BRS, or amazon.

Thanks, if it's not from your help, I wouldn't able to do any of my plumbings. So thanks to you ;)

    Thanks!

Just starting up a RSR Nano tank in my office at home.

I aim to run this tank using as little, or if possible nothing at all, from the ocean directly. So all tank bred/fragged livestock and man made rock etc. Going to be an interesting project :)

Does anyone need the Red Sea return nozzle from my Red Sea Reefer 350? I'm not sure if it would fit other models. Just pay shipping. PM me.

I don’t use the stock ATO reservoir any more, but it is 17”L x 5.75” W x 8.75” H. It’s 16.25” from the ledge it sits upon (above the filter socks) to the top of the sump cabinet, so that leaves about 7.5” for the space above the reservoir.

I am hoping to get some advice please.. I picked up a used Red Sea 250 ( I think) in a crazy good eBay deal. It is 4ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft with a sizeable sump underneath. It is an older model with drilled holes on the back panel for draining and returns with hose connectors and flexi PVC piping going down to the sump.

I have got the display tank cleaned up and going nicely, but am yet to get the sump plumbed in.

Now I read online that it is a good idea to hard plumb the sump from the tank, however I am having difficulty in how i go from the hose style connector on the outlet to PVC piping. The hole in the tank is around 1.5". Then the return hole is 1" with a hose style connector again.

Any advice on how to get the hard plumbing in would be appreciated or do i need to stick with the flexi piping?

Second question is what to put in the 3 compartments? The biggest is the first, progressively getting smaller to the return. I have a filter sock, bubble magus curve 5, some live rock frags and some tubs of kent marine bio-sediment.

Any help would be kindly received.

A picture of the current plumbing and sump would be really benefical to offer some concrete advice. Generally the flexible tubing connections can be replaced with hard pvc connections, but without seeing what you have, its hard to make a recommendation. :D

That would be useful. As you can see there is some pretty crappy pipe there at the moment. I’ve currently got the sump circulating on itself for the sake of the live rock.

Unless I'm missing something that doesn't look anything like any Red Sea tank I've ever seen.

Oh and got this in today I'm going to try on the new 425. Don't expect it to be nearly as nice as the artfully acrylic one I had on the 250, but for $55 I think it's worth a shot.

Not a Red Sea Reefer 250. If that's what they told you it was, sounds like it could have been a scam. I've had my 250 almost since when it was released, and it looks the same as the current days ones.

I've found out today that it is in fact an xaqua tank, so no scam... looks like I've done okay!
