I just got these for a xl425 and unscrews at barb

Good morning, all. I just contacted Red Sea to start the process of making a custom manifold. The rep sent me a pic of the XL425's return barbed fitting, but I don't think this is the piece that I need. I think it can be used, but just makes the valve closer to the sump. Can anyone confirm this for me? She mentioned the other piece that most people order is OOS and not expected to have back in-stock until the beginning of May, ugghhhh. Thanks for any help you guys could provide.

Can you share what size adapters you used and where you found them?

A few places sell them! BRS 25mm to 3/4” for return to tank, which I made 1” all the way up till I had to reduce it to 3/4”. Then 32mm to 1” for overflow to tank and emergency overflow to tank. About 7$ each. Hope that helps Andy.

Thank you, now what do you use to attach that to the REDSEA adapter?

That screws to your return pipe from DT then you would use a 3/4” to slip adapter. The slip size will be what ever size tube you use.
Disregard this. I didn’t realize you where asking about something else.

Ok I’ll try and figure it out. I’ve plumbed my tank before but I always had a leak.

On the return plumbing it would drip from the connection to the adapter.

I'm in your area, GTA. Who's your local retailer trying to push the bigger system on you? Big Al's?

Yes the retailer was Big Al’s but went to a different location. Ended up ordering a 425xl and it has taken forever to come and they had a 525xl on the next shipment so I requested to get that instead. If they keep delaying I will end up with the 750xxl lol j/k.

I have a full apex and cor pump coming in too as soon as the whole thing is here I’ll do a build thread.

Gonna take the sump in to a local shop to have a refugium baffle built and setup the fuge from the start.

Gotta figure out where to buy clean chaeto in canada. Lol

The barb is now glued, from what the recent post states! Got all my ideas from broadfield, so I don’t doubt 2 years ago it was made like that! Also, why not make them all that way with threads for the option, would make it easier on everyone.
I have both new and old. New is glued but barb just unscrews at different place. 3/4" to slip still works fine.

Setting up a xl425 and have a question on return pump placement.
Is there a difference if the return pump is closer to the front of the sump vs father back?
I’m hard plumbing mine and don’t want it in a bad location.

Either is fine, as long as you arent limiting the water flow to the pump intake.

I see Red Sea is making it harder and harder to customize our plumbing! The xxl 750 is a wreck, they could make it so much more simple! Wish mine was as easy and a threaded barb on everything coming out of the overflow. :)

Won't the length of that adapter put the valve too close to the ATO? Looks kind of tight up there as is.

Thanks.

Not being a fan of the cheepo adapter fittings I could find to change out the plumbing in my 525XL I took matters into my own hands...

About 30 thousands off 1" pipe.

It was everything I could do not to grab a block of acrylic and cut inside threads that fit the Stock RedSea pipes for a removeable adapter...
