Does anyone have suggestions for running filter floss on a Red Sea max E170?

Water flows in under the the filter tray which makes filter floss pretty ineffective.

any upgrades or solutions to this issue?
Should be able to run filter pad across the top of the return pump chamber. Probably not ideal since its the last chamber, but the easiest place to access.

Just about finished building the insert for under the tank. Need to pickup the grommets and let the paint cure for another day or two.

Update. Now have it hooked up. It was a bit of a pain in the *** to get the network working. Other than that, seems to be working. I will hook up the DOS later after I build a shelf.

We have succeeded in improving the water supply pipe and greatly increasing the flow rate.
Anyone can easily modify the hose instead of piping.
Since the thin part has disappeared, the amount about twice as much as the original flowed.

What are you trying to do? Yes, I know the difference.
42221 allows you to unscrew the nipple end allowing you to screw in 3/4” PVC pipe.
42222 just allows you to use vinyl tubing. It doesn’t allow for modification. To the part it self.

So, if you want to run PVC pipe from your drain and or return pipes on the bottom of the tank 42221 is the part that makes this possible.

One problem some folks have is they get hung up on the item description. The description utilizes which model tank the parts above are designed for. Most people utilize these parts to modify their tanks. Since they are getting used to modify the tanks the description is no longer relevant.

Not that it matters, but 42221 is also less expensive than the 42222 part.

Here’s another part of this thread with some links.

Careful of those clamps rusting into your tank. Are they stainless ?

for those you that have done the gate valve replacement i am windering does it impede flow? trying to think about how the inside diameter is reduced at the threaded coupler.
i am looking to plumb a trigger platinum 34 any advice wpuld be appreciated

one thing i noticed is that i see that some people get the 42221 and go with threaded to 3/4" and the other have a slip go OVER the 42221? not sure which is better? easier?

The biggest problem with ALL red sea tanks is they are all necked down to a small 3/4 ID (25mm) on the stock return line. So the modification doesn’t effect flow. Once you restrict flow to a particular size that size is your limiting factor. So no matter how large the tubing is in your sump you won’t get any benefit from it. So just might as well go 3/4” and save space.

being an ocean engineer, I have no idea how redsea meets their flow requirements for the 525xl. The most I can push thru is roughly 550-600 gph. Their manual say over 1000gph. Not going to happen with a 3/4 pipe.

Is that a metal band clamp next to salt water?

Yea that’s kinda what I was thinking -appreciate the reply.

I’ll maybe get an egg crate and then use that to support filter floss
