Now that the Red Sea Reefer series tanks are getting more common in hobbyist's homes, I thought it would be nice to have a one-stop place to share and discuss them. I love mine and I think it's one of the nicest setups for the money. It's far less expensive than an Elos and even cheaper than Innovative Marine SR series. I love setups that allow for user customization and I like checking out what others are doing with theirs. I think Red Sea really hit big with this one and the # of sales proves that. So please post up pics of your setups and feel free to discuss mods, tips, equipment etc.

I'll start out with a sump pic of my 450:

I'm also going to leave this here so it's easy to find... my very cheap solution to splitting the return:

PART LIST:

1/2" NPT Connector for 1/2" Loc-Line

Y Fitting for 1/2" Loc-Line Modular Hose
1/2" Loc-Line Modular Hose - 6 segments (you can split this in half or buy two of them if you want really long arms)
(2) Round Nozzles for 1/2" Loc-Line Modular Hose (you may choose to do the flare or straight-flow nozzles, but I like these the best)

  1. First remove the Red Sea fitting out of the end of the return nozzle... it's just pressure fit with Teflon tape.
  2. Then simply wrap the threaded section of the NPS fitting with about 10 wraps of Teflon tape.
  3. Next twist/slide into the Red Sea nozzle... it should go in somewhat snug.
  4. Then pull it back out and wrap it again with about 10 wraps of Teflon tape.
  5. Go ahead and twist/slide it back in... done.
  6. Lastly, snap on the Y fitting and your selection of Loc-Line segments and nozzles.

Our very own @pelphrey recently put together a nice instructional video on this also.

Love the sump, especially the red glow to it! Who made it and have everything so neatly organized! Would love to have something similar, but in a blue light!

It's so organized and clean! How/where did you get the right control panel holder from?

This is my Reefer XXL 625. Still cycling the tank before adding anything. Ran across this thread looking to see if I could find anyone who made a siphon break in the return line to the display tank. Anybody know the best way to accomplish this?

I'm getting my first 625 soon. How did you attach all those controllers to the walls? What are in the boxes to the left and the right of your tank?

I made the control panel from some white PVC board that you can get at a Lowe’s/HD, held up with magnets to allow for storage and access behind, painted some trim orange and nailed it on. Cut out holes with a home saw. Took some planning and forethought, but minimal craftsman skills. Happy to discuss more details if the build thread isn’t thorough enough.

This is my Red Sea 350. It’s been running for about a year now. Super happy with the tank. My only complaint is that I wish I got a larger tank. Almost out of space for new corals!

I'm finally part of the group. Does anyone see an issue with swapping the main overflow pipe with the emergency pipe? Don't see why it would but figured I'd check before cutting and glueing pvc. Thanks!

@kiet_kat I'm not sure if it would work. I've never seen it done.

What are your goal parameters to keep your corals so healthy?
For me, the most important thing is consistency. That goes for salinity, temperature and water changes. I don’t obsess with dosing. I clean the filter socks and do a 10 gallon water change every week. I place carbon, purigen, and phosguard in the filter socks. UV light runs 24/7.

Anybody know if the Reefer hinges come apart like that. One of mine is so corroded I might replace it. These come optional stainless 304. See webpage for video.

Recently setup a RSR 900; Finishing adding water and rock tomorrow to start cycling. Question:

What filter roller even works with this horrible tank layout? I'm very tempted to forego the split sump and just buy a new sump that can accommodate the Royal Exclusiv roller I want.

Nice. How'd you like working with the spa flex? Pretty easy?

would this work with the Red Sea Reefer XLL 625? Im looking to turn the overflow pipes into standard so that I can hook it up to my Trigger Systems Sapphire 39.
