Yeah, side/back wall of the stand. I may try and drill then brace just in case… maybe glue in PVC to add a little extra support?

@Broadfield used bulkhead fittings to make it look finished, and, I suspect this does add a bit of strength as well.

good idea. I have some bulkheads missing gaskets that would be perfect.

I am removing the entire center divider and building a steel frame around the front then putting the center door on with magnets.

It will take all the bowing issues away and give me lots of room under the tank since I am using a fijicube 36 sump for the 625xxl and the two 30x30x10 tanks that will share the sump.

I’m looking to plumb in a small frag tank to my Reefer 450… anyone know if drilling a 1” hole in the side or back wall (plus sealing the exposed wood) would be okay or is it not a good idea to mess with a load bearing wall?
Drilled the divider wall in my 525xl cabinet no problems. Made two 1.5" holes easy-peasy. Then I painted the inside of the holes black, and used a plastic wire grommet to finish it off. Applied some silicone around the edges. Looks pro!

Probably wise to stay away from the edges like someone else said.

I'm almost at the 6 month mark on my Reefer 250. Things are going well and the tank is settling in. Now only if my Elegance Coral would stop killing my all my snails....

I just added a 7 gallon refugium yesterday. I had the Reefdreams baffle kit but found that it crowded an already small space.
IMG_1482999982.943566.jpg

Next project will be installing hard plumbing and some reactors (as long as the commander allows it).
Hello !!
I hope you are still on this forum :)
I would like to do the same refugium in for my red sea reefer 250 and I would like to know how you made with the in and out of refugium. You may use a pump to get the water in but witch model or how many liters to up ? Where do you put the pump ?
And the output of the refugium ? did you make a whole in the refugium ?
Maybe you have picture of it ?
I will raise the tank up to 25 cm...

If someone did the same refugium answers can be given as well :)
Kind regards !

I've been using a single Maxspect Razor X R5 300w on my Red sea reefer.

I've been happy with it, but now that my amount of SPS have increased im looking into increasing my lighting coverage.

I've been going back and forth between buying an second Maxspect unit for about $1,050 or selling the one I have to replace with 2 Radion XR30 or 3 XR15

Any insight into what you all might do in my place?

EDIT: Reefer 450

What size Reefer so we could tell you if either would be enough. I use 2 ATI Stratons on my 450 (60”) and it’s providing very even spread

honestly - sell the one you have - you will probably get a good price - and buy the G5radion XR30

I think you could get away with 2 XR30s now, but as your acros grow, you’ll likely need a 3rd and have them perpendicular to the tank to avoid shadows on a 60” tank. The larger panel lights like the Straton, Mitras, Orphic or coral care might be better options.

Im not familiar with most of these lights so i'll def look into it.

Had this tank setup previously but tore it down and wondering what advice anyone could give me. Getting ready to fill again. This is the cam-lock and dowel on the very bottom of the right front corner. There is some separation here and it scares me. I tried tightening it by turning the cam with a philips screwdriver but it didn’t pull things together.

Thinking of putting a triangle piece of wood inside the corner where the red markup is. Then taking those big C-clamp like tighteners used for glueing wood to hold things tight, then screwing in the wooden triangle.

If memory serves, there are more than a few cam locks on that side. Have you tried removing that panel to examine the cam locks? (maybe one got jammed) I know I either used a rubber mallet to gently 'tap' the odd panel that was refusing to cooperate or removed the cam in question until I got it to work properly.

I think it can be resolved by removing that panel, examining and putting back together. Now that I can see the whole side, that whole panel is sticking out (so other cams may not have locked either).

When I had it set up the first time, the tank leaned forward and it showed with the water’s surface. The water’s surface looked much higher in the front. However the floor was quite weak and it’s level could have given way. After draining the tank I took the whole stand apart about two years ago. When putting back together I used my trusty rubber mallet and was careful to avoid jammed locks. I think the panel(s) are warped.

Doing initial fill on my 850 G2, but looks like the water just follow directly from the 2nd chamber to the skimmer chamber, bypassing the extension sump with very little water movement there. Any suggestion on how to fix this? The return pump chamber is about 6” of water per instruction.

I used mine for a 20 gallon ATO tank but I hear a small power head directing water out helps.
