This is a good tip. I’m about to set up my UV and has not thought about that. Thank you.Love sump posts. Backbones of thriving systems and just as impressive as displays.
Just a tip:
For your UV, you want the inlet/outlet to face upish to prevent any bubbles which might make your UV inefficient or even worse a hotspot leading to failure.
I think this thread will be beneficial for me too! I’ll make some changes today. If you don’t mind please post up a pic of your sump set upLove sump posts. Backbones of thriving systems and just as impressive as displays.

Sheesh, looks like it'll shriek at me just for opening the doors..I keep sump monsters. Not sure if this helps.
I'd love to! Still piecing out equipment and letting some macro grow before showing. Due to limited space, I can only have one big tank. My sump is my 2nd display/frag & refugium. Will share in about 2 weeks when things are more complete.I think this thread will be beneficial for me too! I’ll make some changes today. If you don’t mind please post up a pic of your sump set up

Just picked up my new sump last night.
Starting from the top right corner: 2x 1” bulk heads for two emergency drains, 3/4” bulkhead for UV return. Drains into a “crash box with a removable baffle, bio media will be in this area.
This feed to the large section for the AFR (ReefMat 1200) which will be hard plumbed. Section also contains probe holder.
Lower center large section will hold Skimmer, heaters and an Algae Reactor (Tunze 3181?). Dosing will be done in this section as well.
Water exits in the top left of this section into a cryptic fuge area, flows through a babble trap into a return section with two 1” bulkheads. Undecided if to run UV off of separate pump or run two returns and incorporate a manifold.
Far left is built in ATO reservoir (14g)
Good catch! Yes, the input/output should face up. Having a slight tilt towards the output will help with trapped air.Love sump posts. Backbones of thriving systems and just as impressive as displays.

I’m sure the wife appreciates it being out of the house! That’s awesomeWow, all you kids with your fancy sumps. I'm still rocking a home made 75 gallon with a disorganized cable mess in a shed.![]()

Wow! It looks like a laboratory under your tank haha. I love the set up! What’re you dosing?I like the look of w**ker sump - whereby the owner scrapes the sump glass daily to keep it tidy! When Bob-the-neighbour comes - he would be ashamed of his untidy sump. I would lose by a big margin to a w**ker sump! Last time I scraped the glass was probably in 2019.. and it would not be possible due to the sheer amount of fan worms that live in my sump.
