Howdy,

I am sick and tired of my Tunze 9001 boiling over the cup. It fills up after 24 hours no matter what adjustments I make. The tank is well over a year old, and it just never seems to run "right". It has been cleaned several times and it runs nicely after that once it breaks in but 1 week later it's just boiling over. I am starting to dial down some excess nitrates and hoping a better skimmer will help.

I have toyed with the idea of removing it all together, but than more frequent water changes would be required and I am trying to avoid that.

Lots of different types of mechanical media make skimmers go nuts if not rinsed really well in hot water. Some additives also act as surfactants. Have you tried adjusting the mounting height? I have never had a problem with the 9001.

The 9001 is the lowest maintenance nano skimmer I have tried and I have tried at least half a dozen. If you are not introducing a surfactant or having water level fluctuations then you should not have problems.

I have zero water fluctuations in the back chamber of my IM 30 AIO.

The level in the skimmer changes more than the tank water.. lol it's garbage.

I dose brs two part and have a chemi pure blue bag. That's it.

Ive cleaned the skimmer several times and as mentioned it works for a week maybe ?

You should have posted this in the Tunze forum. Roger is very responsive. Whether it's user error or there is something wrong with it he will get you fixed right up.

I guess you have it in the backchamber of an aio nano tank? Ever considered to ditch the skimmer and put a ball of chaeto in that chamber with a grow light to the side or an underwater led?

I ditched my tunze 9001 because the foam would just come out the back before the cup and replaced it with the ice cap k1 nano and couldn’t be happier, work’s unbelievably well.

I had my bottom plate turned upside down, I think this will fix that issue. I emailed Tunze about it. They are really good about getting back quickly, I’m hoping this resolves the issue. The picture is how the plate should look.

I had my bottom plate turned the wrong way, this is the correct way. i’m still trying to figure out what is going on with mine and this is what Tunze said. The cup definitely fits a lot tighter now. The directions can be a little confusing

Raise it up. That’s what I did. I finally got it working great.

I’m with you. I also have this skimmer for almost two years and it still doesn’t skim right.

I had a Tunze a hang on reef octopus and this Aquamaxx bullet is the bomb. Very hard to find but worth every penny, I’ve got it on the back of my water box 20 and it’s amazing.
