So found this (55gal?) tank, stand, lid (fluorescent light) and Fluval 450 canister filter in trash on side of road.
Tank and filter leak free so far after 5 hours. I’ll let those sit running for a week or so to check for leaks. Stand is in pretty good shape as well as lid with lights. You think it’s worth setting up?
How would I even begin to get the “scale” off tank exterior.
( Also had a small HOB filter that I’m running with my QT to check for leaks etc)

Soak towel in vinegar and lay towel across outside areas where scale built up. This is assuming you don't have anything large enough to put it inside to soak... like a Brute trashcan (many use those for saltwater mixing... likely can't soak whole thing even in a Brute due to size)

AMAZING FIND! Lucky you found and rescued this! Hate when perfectly usable things end up in landfills...

I need to "find" something like that ... resulting conversation "... but Honey, I found it on the side of road so PLEASE can I have another tank... ?? Its not like this really counts" <wink>

So I’ve filled with tap water and tank has been sitting full on porch for 5 days. No water leaks whatsoever. How long would you advise to “leak test”?

Looks like a 55 gal to me. I would empty it, dry it out, and add some new silicon to the seams and retest for a week. Make sure none of the plastic at the top or bottom of the tank are busted. This plastic is crucial to the structural integrity of the tank! If it is busted you can find stuff online pretty easily and cheap.

Amazing find! Good job on cleaning it too!
