I'm doing sodium silicate to try to get diatoms to bloom to combat large cell Amphi Dino's. I've dosed A LOT of silica over the last several weeks and haven't seemed to be able to get diatoms to really take off. I had none, and have noticed some under the microscope the last few times I've looked, but they don't seem to be increasing at all now. I dose .25-.5 ppm sodium silicate each time and have dosed that probably 10 times or so over the last few weeks. I have tested measurable silicate with salifert. I'm not too focused on exact levels as what I have read is "dose until you see diatoms take over" and the exact level doesn't matter all that much.

I dosed vibrant to help with a turf algae issue about a month ago and I'm wondering if maybe the vibrant is possibly having a suppressing effect on the diatoms?

Any other insights into the situation?

Thanks

I should also mention my nutrients are running about 5 for NO3 and .3 for phosphate
