I wasn't planning on getting back into the hobby this quickly but I can't help myself. Back story:
I had a 525XL previously at my home in Denver, CO. I just bought that house and the tank was only a year old but really starting to pick up. Anyways my heart decided it wanted to be back in Dana Point/Laguna Beach, CA and that I needed surfing in my life again so I sold the tank and moved. It was sad to see all that effort go but it went to a great home (if the buyer is reading this please post or text me ). I'm now renting my house in Denver and living in an apartment in Dana Point. So no big tanks and nothing that needs crazy maintenance since I won't really have a good easy maintenance setup.
Original plan was for a small 10g IM tank but the sizes kept going up as I started thinking about how realistic it would be to keep a tiny tank stable with an inconsistent maintenance schedule.
so here we are. Hopefully I'm picking up a tank this week (36" x 15" x 17"h) with matching stand and canopy!
I just ordered all I need to get started, way over budget of course. I sold everything when I sold my 525XL because downsizing into an apartment is difficult and I didn't want to move it all across the country. So I had to get EVERYTHING:
4 bulb 36" ATI T5 with Giesemann bulbs (not supposed to be mounted in a canopy but we will see)
- Super Actinic
- Aquablue Azure
- Aquablue Coral
- Actinic Blue x2 (in case it's too white with only one)
Aquamaxx HOB-R refugium (a spot to put the heater and grow chaeto) -- I want to mod this as well to accept filter floss so I only have 1 thing hanging on the tank
BRS 75GPD RODI
Salifert tests
40lbs Marco Dry Rock
Tunze 3155 ATO (it's big but I feel safer with the redundancy vs the nano)
150W Neotherm
Icecap 1k gyre
Oolite sand
+ the random odds and ends you need for maintenance
Since I don't have a tank yet, here's a pic I snapped at one of my favorite spots:
