I have a small 20 gallon QT and when I pump water into it the sand explodes everywhere. Any tips for a nano tank newb?

I like to do large water changes, but I don’t want any corals getting a covered in sand every time.

my direct advice is to add unrinsed sand from caribsea immediately to the system

:)

why not go barebottom, if the qt is getting meds the sand will uptake some of them n bind.

It’s a coral and invert QT.

Thanks guys. I’m going to try these out.
Plate with a bowl on top of it works well. Pour into the bowl and let overflow onto the plate. Keep it directed at the bowl for a good while after the bowl is covered. May need to all the way to the top if it's coming out quick.

Plate on bottom or pour the water into a plastic strainer (or both).
