Not sure what species. It's about 2' in diameter now, and it might be needing another brain coral transplant...I've had it for over 10 years now, from when it was just a wee lad.

I assume mine are favia but will have to check a little deeper. The one thing I have always wanted is to get that large round, mound-shaped coral that mimics what I have seen in the wild. Both of mine have this appearance now though it certainly takes a long time. One I have had since it was a small frag (~11 years, unnamed, I think) on a plug and it's now about 8" x 4" x 4" and the other is more of a ball, about the size of a softball (~6 years, Mia's pot of gold). I'll see if I can get some decent pics...

Beautiful! I've got one just like it! About 13 years old and about 20" wide and 10" thick! Yours is the first I've seen like mine, with the double walls.... Awesome I would love to get an approximate ID.

I've also gad this one for the about the same timeframe...

Personally, I'm a pretty big fan of the one I just got! I love the mint green meandering corallites! I had an entire thread devoted to identification but there wasn't much of a general consensus.

1st one is Platygyra. It doesn't actually have double walls; the flesh has lips on the edge of the walls that make it look so, similar to lords and Micromussa. The second coral is Paragoniastrea australensis.

That looks similar to this one i was considering getting but haven't decided yet. Here it is. It's going for about $36 but I just dropped $21 on this Platygyra. I might be able to get a small discount though.

Here are my two brain corals. Mia's pot of gold (left) is about 5" diameter and unknown (right) is about 10" x 5". The colors do not look very good in this pic. Brain on right has light blue in each head. I've had that one over 11 years.

I put favia because I love the way they look. Especially round ones. Lobos are a favorite too but the ones I have are more elongated and will probably never get large enough to take on the shape I love. I’m a fan of all brain types
