Great pieces jda! Is that center piece in the first photo a granulosa? Your tank looks so healhty, well done.

I am leaning towards Lorpies, but I would not argue with Granulosa either. That is Princess Distah sold originally by Peng. It is a really fast grower.

Smooth skin acropora are a favorite of mine for sure. I am always o the look out for them sadly I have not come across many yet. I do have a small hakins echinata that I got from a local reefer, needs to color up before I can show it off though.

i bought an ice fire enchinata recently and i think it's alive?.. how do i know if it is dead? mine basically just looks completely white except under white light where the tips are blue. no polyp extension at all. no browning at least!?

this is how it looked at the lfs when i bought it, but being a newbie about it, it may have been bleached and i wouldn't have known lol

I've struggled with that particular piece in the past, seems very delicate!

If it's got some blue it's probably alive. Give it really strong flow. Peak at it middle of the night, that's when I see polyp extension like crazy.

If algae is growing on it.......its dead ;)

thanks! i'll have to try to get some decent pics of it. i'll try to play with my wavemaker and see if i can get it going a little more powerful without a sandstorm lol. is lighting less important for these deepwater acros?

Lighting is still important but for general health of the piece flow is critical. Give it mid level if your lighting is strong and adjust from there. Pick a spot with the strongest indirect flow for it since it's most likely a wild piece.

I moved the first piece I posted lower, in my sps dominant tank, and the tips have started to receed slowly. I'll be moving it back up to high flow and lighting.

Looking good, can't wait for my Hawkins to fill in like that. If that's shaded colors on the second......post up when its fully colored! Looks like a killer piece.
