Mine has been looking pretty good lately. I was having diatoms all over the sand bed and turf algae getting everywhere. Now there is no turf algae anywhere and the sand is the whitest it has ever been. I think I have figured it out by auto dosing, adding some CUC and changing my RO filters. Pretty happy with it ATM. (that will probably change.

At 5 months my tank is still a baby. But I feel like we're turning the corner on some of the uglies. It's starting to look ok. I'm starting to not be afraid to share pictures. I'm starting to feel less nervous about adding coral. It's still a bit rough but I think the future is bright!

I kept getting diatoms. I suspected the coral rubble I'd added when I started the tank. I got a silicate test, and was surprised that it was nearly too low to measure (<1mg/L), but since the diatoms seemed to LOVE to grow on that rubble, I spent an hour pulling as much as I could out.
Put in new floss, replaced in in a few hours....

And woke up the next morning to crystal clear water, MUCH less diatoms, and the tank starting to look pretty good, for as young as it is.

I'm pretty stoked at the moment :)

Empty...just empty :p Seriously, though...I just got a 20 high today and have no clue what I want to do with it, whether fresh or salt.

My tank is doing pretty good right now. There is an overpopulation of diatoms and some cyanobacteria at the moment (but I just started dosing phytoplankton so I'm not surprised). The last time I checked (which was about a week ago) my nitrates were around 1ppm, phosphates lower than 0.05ppm, and the calcium was 180ppm! I really need to get some calcium to dose the tank; no wonder the coral aren't really growing!

Whats you oldest coral
I am not sure. I think one of the gorgonians is very old but I am guessing. All the corals came from my last house and I had to break all the hard corals to get them here and re glue them. Some may be 10 or 15 years old.
