Hello all ! I will soon be moving from Memphis Tenn to Midland Mi in Late July , what a move right ?!?!? I don't think I even have a winter coat lol .

I am currently selling my coral off and breaking down my tank , it will be a chance to start a new one once we get settled in . I'm thinking a large bullnose sps with a focus on high qualty stock ,it's never too early to plan lol .

I really know nothing about the "mit" any advice will be gladly accepted what's life like there ?, challenges of owning a reef tank ?water quality ,heating , resources, quality lfs and vendors . I look forward to bringing my experiences and expertise to the area .

I'm sitting here in Midland at work right now! It's gonna be cold in the winter, but the spring/summer/fall is nice. A lot of things to do year round, maybe you'll even take to skiing or snowmobiling! lol. Not me, I hate the cold! Midland area is nice, it's no Memphis tho. Handful of spots for nightlife entertainment, but a lot of outdoor activities all around. Not many good LFS in the area & I don't think Midland even has one anymore. Closest would be Mt. Pleasant and a stop at the Casino while there :) All the decent LFS's are down in the Metro Detroit area which is where I live & roughly a 1.5 hour drive.

Cool man ! Looking forward to a change in seasons ... My ac has cut on every month for 2016 we really don't have winters but it's hot from may to November, we call it jungle heat you start sweating as soon as you hit the door lol . I'm looking forward to getting out of this hustle and grind Memphis is tough .... it will wear you out ...

That's a bummer there aren't any local stores ... "Can you say business opportunity??? " hahhaha my wife would never go for it lol ,could always use a trip to the casino or motor city though.

I'm looking forward to moving , every time I open my mouth people are going to be like " where are you from " lol I'm going to say down the street lol

I was checking out cherry corals on line yesterday , has anybody ordered from them before ?

There used to be a store in Midland, but closed a few years back. Not a huge demand in that area, kinda small, as is the surrounding area. I've never been to the place in Mt.Pleasant, but I have a buddy that lives in Midland and he's been there a couple of times, said it's decent & reasonable. That's prob only about a 20 minute drive for you from Midland & a huge Indian casino there. They have an outdoor concert venue, big water park if you have kids. Also, Midland has a nice semi pro baseball team with a stadium built by Dow Chemical, the Great Lakes Loons. Beautiful stadium, nicest one in the league & cheap entertainment to go to a game. Plus there's lakes & beaches nearby, prob 10-15 mins to Sanford Lake & nice sandy beach.

Cherry Corals is maybe 15mins from my house, been there multiple times over the years, nice stuff & good guys to deal with. Never once have I seen any pests come off of a coral from them after a dip. They pride themselves in that. I still dip everything, but nice to know they are meticulous about it. There's also other nice LFS in the Detroit area. Good day trip

Idk if any one has said this yet but in my opinion Cherry Corals is the best place to get coral (they are in Livonia) and Pruse is pretty good for fish but the coral selection is usually more mid grade stuff and any higher stuff is a tad over priced. Very knowledgeable people tho and they have a decent selection of equipment if you cant wait for shipping. They are in Lansing

Hey @Streetdoc77 Have you made it to Midland? Great area! Its a nice mix of city and country , Big woods or Great Lakes are short drive away. You also have some world class Fishing and some Dandy Bucks. Just dont eat too much fish from the Tittabawassee or your Corals will get jealous because you'll Glow Brighter.
I Think Even Nailed it with Pruse, I have not been there but this last weekend they held a Frag swap and It was impressive. Good luck

I have for a year and a half now . Michigan is a beautiful state with so much water !!! I have been fishing several times already and it has been incredible! My profile pic is a beautiful steelhead caught on the manistee river . It’s funny you say that we have a lot of nuclear facilities in Tennessee you don’t eat those HOT FISH ! Hahahahah . There are definitely not a lot of lfs to choose from around here .... I have not made it to Preus pets in Lansing yet but look forward to going .

When it Comes to Coral you are in Luck :)

In Addition to the World Famous Cherry Corals.

Michigan has 12 Frag Swaps a Year (More than any other State).

Ohio is Number 2 with 7 Frag Swaps a Year.

Tennessee only has 2 Frag Swaps a Year.
