Spirulina powder - any benefit for the reef tank?

Something I've given thought to as I've been culturing tigger pods solely on spirulina powder. Given they are able to grow, reproduce and in general thrive on a powdered algae form like spirulina, would there be a general benefit to periodically feeding the tank in the same manner?

Lots of people feed spirulina to their fish, corals and inverts, and it's a component of a number of commercial foods like BRS Reef Chili.
