Thinking of going straight into 5 -7 length of REEFBRITES XHO actinics and daylight or the 50/50, they are supposed to be T5 replacements minus the heat. Plus they are APEX ready.

Given the recent departure of ETM from APEX, I am contemplating using the DOS instead of VERSA and WAV instead of NERO5.
I’ve never seen anybody do straight reefbrites but I’m sure it could work. Personally, I like having ATI T5 bulbs as supplements. I have a DOS and I really like it. I’ve never used WAV’s so I can’t say much about them but I do love my MP40s!

I saw it on BRS latest video on Ryan’s 360 lighting around the 10min mark, they were impressed with 5 ReefBrite XHO (3xActinics and 2x50/50 combination) straight up... that got me thinking.

Looks really nice, considering this same tank! Did you decide on a skimmer, I might have missed it after you said you were considering a Bubble King Mini. I use a bubble king on my current build and they are awesome silent skimmers.

Thanks! I haven’t bought the skimmer yet but yes I want to upgrade to the BK mini 180. I’m using a skimmer but I forgot the name and it’s actually kicking butt right now!

The tank still has the uglies but it’s definitely getting better. I siphoned the sandbed and changed 15gallons.

I see only one yellow tang...guess you've banished the other somewhere.:D

Many pounds of sand are you having in there?

Yeah I gave him to my buddy because the other yellow was bullying him! And don’t tell anyone but I think I found myself a black tang and a koi tang hehe
I’m using about 40lbs and it’s the right amount. I may need to add more though when I add more MP40s. Thinking about doing four total (two on top and two on bottom).

I’m loving the rimless top. Are you planning for a lid or going to stay open topped?
I do too! Unfortunately I’m adding a lid soon. I ordered a custom lid from artfully acrylic since I want to add a couple of known jumpers/escape artists: male flame wrasse, male lineatus wrasse, Borbonius anthias, and a dwarf golden moray eel.

Me too! Did you go with the Pisces exo? Placed order about a month ago.

Not much update on the peninsula 500 but I did make a new rockwork for the reefer 170. I’ll be combining the progression of both tanks in this thread so I need to change the title.

The reefer 170 will be a Colorado Sunburst Anemone tank once I transfer my acros in the peninsula 500. I have the rock cycling now in a different container.
I put a rock on top with a deep hole so hopefully the CSB’s foot will remain attached there!
