Hi all.
I posted a while back about stocking choice but not a build thread so here it is.
I'm quite sure this is going to be a tank like no other that you might have seen. Weather it works or not lets see in time! I'll Come to the dooms day senario next post
I have quite a bit of experince in freshwater with normal and planted tank and growing discus from babies to a large size in a planted setup.
I was always facinated by the next big challenge and the amazing colour of saltwater fish. So here I'm.
What I'm starting with is a display tank water volume of 50gallons 39x13.5x23 (LxWxH) ) and about 15 gallon sump. Casue its right on the living room I need a clean sleek looking tank.
It a prebuilt tank with everything you want: with plumbing ,filter media, pumps and hood from SUNSUN. Thats about the only expencive thing thats going to be on this build (about $350).
There are LOADS of changes and DIY stuff i'm doing from tank it self to all the addonscoming up.
To start with I had to modify the drilled whole used for both return and drain. its acctualy 3 seperete lines(water flow down, up, emergency drain) all using single drilled hole. The tank was built for a bare bottom version. When I tried to put sand in it cloged the emergency out and i had to improvice. I made an modification by inserting anotehr pippe above the drain pipe that had a bottom opening. Then I inserted a some sponge cut to the write size around the boom opening for it to still have some flow and avoide sand geting sucked in.( You can observe this on picture below on blue drain pipe)
Here is a pick after I cycled the tank and put in the dry rocks with 1 circulation pump runing.
I cycled the tank with store bought bacteria.
Also the lights that came for the tank were a LED strip that I can not use. Sepcially if I want to put any Corals in it. So I was lucky enough to be able to remove the lights from the plastic casing with it in tact.
SO YES DIY LED strip that I have to custom build to go on a very small space COMING UP! With a DIY Algae Scrubber as main cleaning source ? ;Facepalm
Stay tuned...
