I have a 29 gallon tank I use occasionally for QT. I haven't used it in about 6 months and it sat with no filtration running or anything. I'm going to fire it back up for a new fish.

Am I ok to top it off, get the salinity right, and let it run for a day or so with carbon? Or does sitting that long affect the water in some way and I need to dump it all and start fresh? I have filter media to move to the tank so I'm not concerned about the bacteria, just whether the old water is still safe.

Sounds like I shouldn't be lazy and cheap and should mix some fresh water for my incoming possum wrasse. I've heard they can be difficult to QT anyways so I should give him the best chance I can. Thanks guys.
