Any chance I can buy some from you? I have a couple in my reef tank, but would love to seed some other tanks with them too.
I need them to feed my Harlequin shrimps. But if you already have some it's just waiting. They reproduce quite well in pretty much every tank.

To me the ocean and a reef "setting" just seems incomplete without a starfish. But how many of us are actually housing one in our reef tanks? Let's talk about it today!

1. Do you have a starfish in your reef aquarium and if so what kind?

2. Do you think there is an advantage to having a starfish in your tank?

3. Do you have any problems keeping a starfish happy and thriving in your aquarium?

I have at hundreds of thousands of mini brittle stars and asterinas. And much to our surprise, a few of the mini brittle stars grew into 3-4 very large brown brittle stars over the decades, which are still thriving in my tanks.

We've had 2 brittles for about 2 years now, awesome part of our clean up crew
We plan on getting some brittles in the near future as part of our cleanup crew. I like how the banded brittle looks and moves sort of like an octopus. How big have yours gotten?

I have a brittle sea star I got as part of my clean up crew. Definitely one of my favorite things in my tank! It has done quite well since I got it about 5 months ago. It is probably looking forward to going in my new 30 gallon tank once it is set up (currently in my 10 gallon starter tank).

I have a blue linka that I have in my tank for 10 years and still going strong.
How big is your tank? We feed our own homemade multi seafood with supplements die at and our tank is stable and thriving. It’s a 125 rated but about 90 actual gallons between DT and sump volume. I have ordered a blue maxima and after reading some of the posts am afraid I’ve made a terrible mistake. Your post gives me hope

I had a chocolate chip star in my FOWLR tank, fed him clams from the grocery store. After a time, I had a field of very clean clam shells scattered all over the substrate. I'd like to try some brittle stars in the reef tank I'm in the process of setting up now.

Andy, any tips on keeping a blue linkia? What size system is it living in? Any thoughts on diet? Thanks.

I currently have two. A brittle star I've raised from a baby and a sand sifter that I've had for over a year. Once a year a green brittle star but have him back to my LFS as he was eating all my fish.

I love how my Brit stays hidden at the front of my tank with just two tentacles always sticking out. Yes they do move and he's not dead!

Sandy and Brit seem very content but I've always had issues with the colorful ones staying alive.

I currently have two stars. But for the life of me I can not keep a blue in my aquarium long term. I have had my orange star for a lil over a year.

Currently have 4...
Red linkia, blue linkia, a brittle star (named “Legs”) and a tile starfish.
All seem to be happy and doing well.
The brittle star is one of my favorite things to watch in the reef. He’s always so quick to come out during feeding, and is not shy about cutting in line.
