Hello!
Years ago I tried my hand at a saltwater aquarium, starting with a 40 gallon breeder and 20 gallon sump, the same tanks I am starting over with now. It didn’t go well, I tried to cut too many corners, I tried doing my top offs manually, I used a black box led light that was not controllable, I kept the water too clean I had for 0 nitrates and 0 phosphate etc.
I tried again with a much smaller tank, a Fluval evo 13.5 which actually did quite well, until my heater malfunctioned and killed my corals.
I tore it down, sold the tank and fish and told myself not to touch saltwater again for a long time.
I always knew I wanted to try saltwater again and recently I decided to do so.
my set up:
40 gallon breeder drilled in the back with overflow and durso drain to 20 gallon sump
light Fluval marine 3.0
return pump uniclife 500gph flow reduced with valve on return line
two heaters controlled with inkbird wifi thermostat
refugium with chaeto lit with lixbird led bulb
Jabeo ow25 wave maker
DIY mesh lid, black
25lbs dry live rock 25-30lbs live rock from previous tank kept running
coralife nano skimmer
Kaomer ato

I got my UV up and running. While I was at it I straightened up the wiring, shortened cords and added labels. Started to get traces of dinos and cyano and the diatoms were hitting pretty good. Everything is in recession so I added 12 snails, 6 Nerites and 6 Cerith. The Cerith seem to be holding their own so very happy with that.
