Looking at what happens to anything I put on the sandbed (between the eel and the dragonet)...I don't think I can keep one.

Mr. Or Mrs. Uniquecorals, since you are a plate expert and since ppl are coming to this post to reply about their love or interest in plate corals I want to extend my request to anyone willing to part / sell their plate colony / wild growing plate. Im only interested in plates still on their stem. Please feel free to answer back. Very VERY interested.

Great Stuff! Keep it coming!

Um, no one here is proffering themselves as an "expert", but there are some knowledgable reefers here. I don't think I have ever seen one attached to the mother colony in the trade...Would be interesting to see if anyone has!

I really like plate corals. Here is my orange one that looks a little bit like Lincoln! :)

If you cut them in half, how long does it take them to grow back (roughly)?

That's really tough to quantify...so many variables. Generally, when reefers frag these corals, they are cut into pie shaped segments...they can take around 4-6 months to get to a recognizable circular shape. That being said, they rebound nicely from imposed propagation if handled well, and can be healed over in mere weeks. Scary, but fun.

I'm sorry. I meant nothing bad with what I said as I feel that the knowledge you posted in the beginning of you post honestly made you an expert in my eyes. Anyway yes brother your right I have never seen them sold as a colony but the 2 colony's I have and the other 3 wild growing plates where from the trade. the first colony started as one single baby I bought from a store and now 6 years later has grown to a colony, the most recent colony I got from this site a week a go and the 3 baby's I have growing wild where purchased from 2 different stores here in Orlando fl.

ive noticed some recession.
Anything i can do?
I would not know, my friend. Maybe it needs more food than it's getting. Personally, I've never kept them, but I had some luck reversing recession in a different coral I had by dosing Vita-Chem.

That was over about 15 minutes.

Thanks for sharing that. I've watched mine eat before, but watching it in fast forward was sweet! Great use of videography!
