Hello,

Long time lurker but first time poster. I have a relatively new tank (started in April) and just saw a new parasitic looking creature in my tank. I have 1 macro algae bush, a couple hermit crabs, a conch, a nassarius snail, a trochus snail, a fire shrimp and 5 small fish. No corals yet because I’m waiting for things to ‘feel stable’ in the tank.

I did a water change this afternoon, blew out my rocks, vacuumed the sand bed and tonight when I checked the tank I found this ‘thing’ hanging on the glass.

I’ve never seen it before and I haven’t put anything new into the tank since early June. I started with dry rock, caribbean live sand and all fish, inverts and algae have been mail order from one of the very well known online aquaria stores.

Any help ID’ing this creature is greatly appreciated. It’s really small, appx. 1/4 inch and appeared translucent under my light.

there are spaghetti worms that have smooth tentacles and medusas that have branching tentacles it could be one of those both good CUC detrivores that might have hitchhiked in on any of your algae or livestock.

Awesome, thanks for the info. It sounds like these are kind of OK if they stay small and not OK if they potentially can get big and kill some fish. I'll play it by ear and keep things stable for a couple month. Maybe I can starve them out through minimal feeding.
