So my tank is about 4 months old now and over the past 1-2 weeks I have noticed these white/gray blobs starting to grow in the sump. There’s about 5 or 6 of them in there now and I have no idea what it is. I thought originally it was calcium carbonate precipitate, but the consistency of them are basically like a soft spongy blob of snot.. for lack of a better word lol. Oddly there is no sign of them in the display, only in the sump.
The pics I took of them last night didn’t turn out so great, I’ll have to take some more after work today. Just wanted to put it out there and see if anyone has seen this before.

My sump is now full of these lumpy white growths and my skimmer etc... I find it ugly but assume it is some type of sponge.

Have these in the sump too - not the display that I have seen

Those look like pineapple sponges.....the typically only grow in dark areas which is why you don't often see then in the DT. They will multiply quickly though.

Thanks and that was an old post and photo and gave me the willies - as those were the early stage of the Marine Pure balls that deteriorated @ 12 months later at the time my aluminum spike to 500 (+) and a number of corals crashed
Perhaps a coincidence
But they are gone now

Marine Pure ceramic - some other folks have said the same, some others endorse them could be a QC batch issue

I took them out

Trying to limited extent orchid substrate - so far so good
