So, day 5 of having a new and gorgeous wellsophyllia from my lfs, first day of acclimation, behaving as usual in terms of opening up (in that it didn't really), second day, ballooned to full size that I saw at lfs, was happy with health, following days up until now, not open much at all. Tonight I noticed it spitting out of one of its mouths, not long brown stuff, but more like a cloud of stringy brown stuff (that some of my fish tried to eat for a second). While spitting it out I also noticed just barely coming out of the mouth little white coils or squiggly fibers that I assume went back in. It's done now but a little bit of the brown stuff is just kind of sitting in the mouth as though it didn't quite get all of it out. Also after this in relation to the sizes I was mentioning before, it has now shrunken down to its smallest size I've seen it, almost down to when I first put it in. So, is this just poop/the transition phase for its new home or should I be worrying? All my other corals are doing fine btw, including the trachyphyllia I got on the same day from the same place and is sitting right next to it.

Pictures would be helpful but sounds like it’s expelling zooxanthelle which May be from over feeding or too much light

I can likely get good and more accurate pictures tomorrow with the lights on when I get home from work, but there's no telling if ideally it will cover by then (that's the hope anyway), or that the brown stringy cloud will be present. I haven't been direct feeding it yet so it may be light, but I'm not so sure as like I said in the post, it's sitting right next to another trachy I got on the same day from the same place, they were even sitting next to eachother in the sale tank. So at least my common sense would tell me they would be doing similar things. I don't know if it helps as it may be an inaccurate representation but here's a picture of it right now with the light off right before I'm off to bed.

It didn't really change in terms of yesterday, last night, and right now, though this morning I did moving to a slightly shadier spot so hopefully he'll recover there. Just know that it should be much larger that it looks in the photos.

Try blowing gently with a turkey baster and see if substance dislodges

I'll try that next time I catch him do it (what you're seeing in the photo I believe looking at it now is actually a smudge of algea on the glass), what next if I can or cannot dislodge it with the baster?

Ok, cleaned the glass and now it's more obvious and clear. It's not constantly spitting brown stuff if that's the idea I got across accidentally, it was a singular incident of a small cloud of stringy brown stuff it spat out last night with the other worry of it being really closed up for going on 6 days now.

Also I just remembered I have a photo of it at the LFS so you can get an idea of how big it's supposed to be. It's only been that big once in my tank and that was the day after I first put it in.

Ok, working on that actually. What were you thinking was the case? Like it was a constant stream or a solid chunk of brown stuff coming out of it? Sounds like I shouldn't be as worried anymore yeah?

Expelling excess zooxanthellae and is of no harm
