Hello,

My tank is 3 months old, and for around 3 days a strong low tide smell appeared, the first day I could only smell it when opening the glass top covers but now I can smell it in the whole loving room.

I had 5 hermit crabs fromy LFS but 3 died quickly due to starvation I think and 1 died recently (shell was growing mold inside and I removed it as soon as I saw that. All other bodies have been discarded.

The water looks yellow when loghts are out (diatoms I believe).

I ordered a whole CUC from ReefCleaners that should arrive tomorrow. Any other advice?

Ammonia 0
Nitrates 8
Phospates 0
Salinity 35
Temp 78
DKH 8
JBJ 45 AIO with 2 clowns and a royal gramma.

Thanks

If it were me, would try water change and add/change carbon. Maybe some of the smell is coming from the fact you have a glass lid too? I ended up taking mine off and it helped quite a bit with my other levels but, I know royal grammas may be tank jumpers so if you're worried you could find a screen or do a half glass/half screen to help with more oxygen exchange that would help the smell too.

Ye the gramma is a jumper but I have some good surface movement so I might be safe, moght get a screen kot from Home Depot and try it out.

I changed the carbon yesterday.

Planning on doing a 10G water change today

Put some of your tank water into a white bucket, even an empty cottage cheese container works, does it look Yellow? if so do a 50% water change. Then add some Activated Carbon in a high flow area, I use Media Bags in my sump on my system.

Water does not look yellow in a white container and the smell disappeared also once in the container. My guess is just that my diatoms are smelling bad? Then I'd just have to wait for them to starve or being eaten by CUC?

I also changed my polyfill and it smelled the low tide times 100, which kond of also make me believe that the smell is from a bacterial bloom.
