Summer Sweet Spot For Tank Temperatures: What's your max?

I keep my tanks at 78-79. Rarely do they get hotter, but it does happen.

I wasn’t running the house ac until last week, the swamp cooler was still keeping the house cool enough at night about 73-75*, but during the day it was getting to 83-85 in the house. 2 tanks were fine and never got past 80-81* the pico did hit 83 multiple days in a row until I put a cooling fan on it but everything was doing just fine at that temp. Now that the ac is on the house stays 74-78* 24/7 and the tanks right at 78-79. I do worry about when the ac unit fails, it happened a few years back and I got through it for a few days, I know the pico couldn’t survive it though.

2. What temperature do you think it too high and when do you start to worry?

I would start to get concerned over 82. Fortunately I have a chiller to keep the temp under control.

Apex + chiller + heaters. 78.2-78.8. Chiller works more in the summer. Heaters work a bit in the winter.

My temperature doesn't go up because it is summer. My tank stays around 78-79 year round. Even with those evil heat pumping halides

I have the heaters at 78, but recently had a 3 day panic with the tank at 84 and nothing went south despite my concern. It was a record stretch of 90+ weather. and first year running a 55W UV; turns out that adds a lot of heat (so turn it off dummy). The frag tank (20) w/o UV peaked at 81.

No AC or chillers in my neck of the woods... house is 74 right now, outside is 84.

I set mine at 77 and the house is maintained at 68 summer and winter.

I set my temp alarm for 80 as at that point I need to start taking some action to ensure it doesn't go higher. Although, I've never gotten a high temp alarm on this tank.

My tank stays 78f. Can't imagine why you'd want to heat it any more than that... Certainly never more than 80f. Waste of energy heating the thing, for zero benefit. My system alarms, turns on the fan, and shuts down the AP700's at 79f.

I keep the AC in my apartment at 70 year round. My tank has always been somewhere between 78 and 79 degrees regardless of what temperature it is outside. I keep my inkbird set to 79 and my heater is set to 80 as a backup just in case the inkbird fails. For me, anything over 80 would be too hot.

I put 80, my tank gets close to 80 in the summer when we have the windows open. Though I have a fan controlled by an inkbird, once it passes 79 the fan kicks on to start cooling the tank.

Well I think we are all finally seeing the heat of summer, well most of us here in the US that is! Already hit 95 degrees here although today is a bit cooler. With that high heat comes fighting the temperature of your tank and trying to keep it at an acceptable level. But what is an acceptable level? Let's talk about it today!

700 degress celcius is as low i'd go... 1060 celcius is just right temperature

I just got back from vacation and flying into Phoenix the pilot said, "welcome to Phoenix it looks like it's about a billion degrees today." It was actually 108 at 10pm.

We hit 118 last week and I remember hitting 125 once. There seems to be a real cold climate bias on the reef forms. Things are really hot here. I keep my thermostat at 82 when away from the house and that means my covered tank can get to 86 durring the day but the fish LPS and Softies don't seem to care. My main tank has a chiller set to 81 if I set it lower it just runs all the time.

Some of my SPS bleached at 82 last summer...

I recently hit 86-87. It was stressful. A lot of corals looked like they were on the way out. But a week or so later and all is good!! Never again though

I think the misconception is that it requires heating to heat it more.

In warm climate my tank runs 86 with no heater and LED lights. A target temp of 82 can actually be a money saving goal for many reefers in warm climates.

My aim has always been to sit around 25c.

The tank is located in the back of the lounge and although it doesn’t get “much”direct sunlight, the lounge is south facing and here in Sweden I have the sun for over 12 hours baring down.
Recently the outside temp has been 29-33c and I’ve seen the tank raise as high as 27.7

Ive just set up cooling fans to keep consistency and the last two days I’ve never gone above 25.5 c. Pretty pleased with that!
