ThisYour sump can be ran pretty much any way you want....they are totally configurable dependent on what you are trying to achieve. I like my sump clean, so I just run it with the filter socks, skimmer, heater, and probes. Some use it for a refugium and keep algae, DSB, etc for nutrient removal.

That fuge is cool, I prefer no sand personally, don't like sand near pumps, and really chaeto and some LR rubble is all I use and need.
My fuge is primarily for pods, not so much for nutrient export, but I get some.
I keep anthias and mandarins which benefit from pods, that's my main objective.
