I know Randy Holmes-Farley wrote an article demonstrating phosphate addition from frozen foods not soaked/drained is negligible. But does adding a cube of frozen food directly to the tank contribute to surface film? I really hate looking at this. Yes skimmers can help mitigate the surface film, but of course if I can reduce the inputs that would be appreciated.

For now I am looking to feed mainly Hikari mysis.

I feed about six different frozen food types and have seen no correlation on food type , brand and surface scum.
I do feed Hikari mysis.

Frozen mysis is naturally oily. Try thawing a few cubes in a small cup of of tank water and strain through a fish net first.
