Well it’s time to introduce myself I guess. My name is Robert and I’m addicted to reef keeping. It all started......”no, no, no, not now, what are you building NOW?”

So first I’d like to thank Kevin for making this possible, it wouldn’t be happening without you bud, thanks.
https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/kirch’s-3xl-900.752762/

Now you know what I’m starting with for the new build, I’ll next show a bit of what it’s going to replace.

The plan.
I first reached out to the man with the most experience in the hobby that I trust to get great advice and equipment from, Keith @ https://reefbum.com/ to order a Dreambox sump. I’m going to have the sump in an adjacent fish/mud room. I wanted to finally step up my sump game.

After some conversations with Keith it was clear I wasn’t patient enough to go with a Dreambox. The shipping delay from Germany is long now days. (I Get to spend money on other things I guess.)

I did some looking into other custom sumps and just got discouraged because it wasn’t the dreambox I wanted. So I went....the cheep route convincing myself it’s temporary and I’ll upgrade the whole sump later.

I ended up getting a 36” icecap because my 250 skimmer would just fit and basically worked size wise with what I already had under the frag tank.

here is a very early look at the progress of the new remote sump. It’s currently running the 265g. I will be adding the 900 on line to this sump as progress gets further along.

Please don’t judge too much. It will be fine tuned a lot over the next month while running. It’s just getting started and I might as well show the real world look at progress.

A little progress of the 192.
We supported the crack with some of my countertop seam setters. We then replaced the styrofoam that it has been sitting on since shipment. It wasn’t very well supported by the old Styrofoam before as you can see.

i’ve removed the overflow box that Red Sea gives you, in preparation for the Fiji cube 24 inch external Overflow.

I have the replacement glass cleaned with acetone and test fitted inside.

I will be running bare bottom this time around, I will have this piece of Starboard as a substrate.

Looks great man, can’t wait to see how this plays out. How thick of glass did you get for the bottom? What did you do for the corners since Red Sea puts those angled plastic pieces over the joints.

1/2” thick for the bottom glass. I think once laminated together it is going to be fine.
I actually had the glass cut to leave a gap around the whole perimeter. I’ll silicone the new glass in two steps. First the two bottoms together then after they cure I’ll mask off the walls of the tank and seal the new bottom to the walls with black silicone. Then on top of that I will put the starboard.

I got the bottom glued down yesterday. I’m going to let that cure until next weekend, then I will mask off all eight internal seems and glue them all up with
The black Dow Corning 795 Silicone and tool them over nicely. I’m not sure if I feel comfortable trying to wet set the “armor plastic” corner pieces. I think I’ll just go with tooled Silicone and call it good.

I’m also mocking up the drain template. I’m going to be going 3” down for the water line. Flow is going to be rippin in here and I want to be able to mag float the top at a normal speed.

Starboard test fit. I will need to clip the four corners off the thickness that I tool the seams to.

I cleaned the inside seams in preparation for the reseal. I was very carful to not cut into the seal in between wall panels while getting all the corners removed.
