Can you tell by looking at the size of the spots if this is ich or velvet? I couldnt catch all the spots but theres a lot more on the whole body. If you zoom in on some of the pics you can see lots of spots. I can even see white spots on the gill. He was swimming vertically for a few days before i noticed the spots.

This is a new fish i got from a reputable seller. I had him in qt for 2 weeks and treated with prazipro. He wasnt eating much in qt so decided to put him in DT after 2 weeks instead of my usual 4 weeks. I inspected closely in sunlight before moving and didnt see any spots on him. Within 4 or 5 days of putting him in dt he started showing white spots on his fins. 3 days later (today) he is laying on the sandbed panting. I took him out and flushed him down. Now i am worried about the other fishes in my tank. If its velvet I'm in for a bumpy ride. I can see same white spots on my copperband, foxface and kole tang. Question is did the angelfish bring this with him or was it ich he picked up from the dt. I know my dt may have ich. A powder blue had ich in my tank months ago. I removed and treated him. The rest of the fishes never showed any sign until now but i never ran fallow.

I'm sorry to say it, but this is Velvet. The very small round white spots make it almost a certainty. Ich tends to be larger and more of an oval shape. :(

I also want to add that you shouldn't blame the seller. If they have ever had a single fish shipped to them that had Velvet the only way they could ever clear it from their systems is to have no fish in their systems for 2 months. Not many places could stay in business doing that.

I assume every fish I get in has Velvet and treat accordingly.

Since the angel was in your display with velvet, you'll probably need to remove all the fish from the display to QT with copper or Chloroquine Phosphate (CP - available by prescription only in the U.S.). A freshwater dip, followed by a formalin or Acriflavin bath may help with immediate relief, on the way to QT.

Humblefish's complete protocol for dealing with it is here: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/velvet-amyloodinium-ocellatum.217570/#post-2499399

All fishes, except my marine betta are now in QT with coppersafe. They were all showing spots by the time I caught and moved them, some more than others. No casualties yet (except the angelfish). They are all swimming and eating. My mandarin seems to be the most affected, and has the slimy velvety skin.

I've read that Marine Bettas can sometimes resist velvet. Is that true? I wasn't able to see any spots on him, and I am worried he may not survive copper so I haven't moved him out of DT yet. I plan to run fishless for 2-3 months. Not sure what to do with the betta though? What do you guys recommend?

The Betta needs to be treated, but I'm not familiar enough with them to know the best way to do it. Otherwise, it will act as a host to the velvet and will re-infect the other fish when they are introduced back together.
