Now they are installing pipes from the main museum building down to the future Aquarium. Probably for cold beverage from the restaurant down to the aquarium staff office. Or it could be something for the heat exchangers. Not sure

Hopefully they remember to insulate the line for the coffee feed!

Lots of meetings and stuff this week. And the building is really moving forward! Now the first concrete work has started.
Here’s a video taken from the museum building down into the new Aquarium :)

Exciting time here, even if it’s just some concrete and rebars. Here you see the foot print of the 400 000L reef tank(the grey area) and the reefs filter room(the white area). ;Happy

This filter room is the lowest area in the building. Here we will have the sump and filters for the reef tank, saltwater mixing, RO tank etc.

An article on the rebuilding and some on the coral reproduction experiment! just in the local newspaper, but still :D
Very neat!

Normally I would think that this was a funny translation error: " one of the water tanks has a little more sexual radiance than the other ".

I couldn't follow the video with the museichef, but I think she said that there will be a restaurant i that area with the arches?

All looks great, and Goteborg is on the list of places to visit now :)

Yes, as usual they like to play with the words around "sexual reproduction" :)

That is corrcts. She talked about a new shop and the new restaurant amoung other things. And she tried to figure out in what arch the new entrence would be in. So it was a nice article with info on most of the different new things coming up.

Always good to get the info out to the people of Gothenburg who's not folloing us on social media. So they see that something is actually happening :)

For those who's not been working with this project for 5+ years, here's the drawing :p Tank to the left, sump with the three compartments, RO tank and tanks for backwashing etc up to the right. The circles are just for example(skimmers and sand pressure filters), we don't know where they will be yet and how they will look.

Fascinating. So what are those curved walls for?

It's a type of way back for the water, if it goes more water through the filters then the returpumps pump. On the picture below you see the way the water is supposed to go.
We might do somekind of a fast flowing tricklefilter on top of the sump, so the first "chamber" needed to have a larger surface area. Therefor the curved wall.
And in the channel from the skimmers to the returpumps, we needed a certain area so the water doesn't flow to fast. Not the best explanation perhaps, but I tried :p

Edit. The ligher walls on the sumps is above the water(for the plastic grid on top of the sump). Except for the small light wall to the left, thats a wall but not all the way up(for keeping the level the same in the first chamber). The darker once are walls.

My “20 frags of each Acropora species tank”, the 20FOEAST, has got the laziest grazers ever. Three tangs, one rabbitfish, a couple of tuxedo urchins and a black long spined urchin, and the red fuzzy algae is still increasing
40143795-E7E3-4447-ACE5-9C097F07CBA7.jpeg

So the plan is to do more room for heavier grazers. Collector urchins and more long spined urchins! I’m not gonna clean that egg crate :p
That means moving some of the corals. There is a bit of a space issue, so today I did a coral wall to fit 15 frags into another tank.

The red algae isn’t a problem in the other tanks, so this is a way of getting the frag plugs cleaned. The powder blue tang loves them, so does the other rabbitfishes, but not the one in the 20FOEAST.. So far four species, about 50-60 frags have been moved. And dipped. And no signs of flatworms! So that’s good.

Any idea what this coral is from the top picture, right side?

We bought it as an Acropora echinata many years ago. But I’m not a 100% sure. I saw a picture of a similar species not long ago, so I might have to look deeper into this coral soon :)

I have one that looks identical and I have assumed it is an enchinata, also.

Our attempt on night camera for the coral spawning experiment ;Sour
0CA53B04-A0E3-4E48-9B4E-C611688C3140.jpeg

Not great so far. But if we just want to see if the closest one or perhaps two corals spawn, that we can see. But it’s work in progress. Slowly.. The picture is better in the day :)

Need to disable to camera's IR function and get an external IR lluminator and mount it over the tank (inside the glass so no reflection)

Found a new creature when looking for eggs in an Acropora under the magnifying glass. Put it under the microscope to see what it was. It was really tiny. Couldn’t see it with my bare eyes. So perhaps 0,1-0,5mm.
459DC0E0-E7E5-403E-AD7A-3561D736661E.jpeg
Is it just bad or a total catastrophe ? Looks like what is known as red bugs when I’ve searched the web. The “eye“ is red(center front), but the microscope won’t show those colours.

Just to be clear and not cause any panic ;)
All corals are fine so far and will be dipped anyway to remove the last Acropora eating flatworms. But if these bloom and eat let say Montipora as well, it might be quite some work.. I hope our current dip (The Dip Fauna Marin) remove them.
