Just need the paint to dry :)

I can't do much about moving the tanks, but I'll gladly take on the task of drying the paint. I'll have it done in under 24 hours. ;)

Now we’re trying out a live web camera and we hope to get it up on our homepage soon. Since we don’t have great display tanks now, just propagation tanks, don’t have too high expectations :p

I also practiced my fraging skills today...Four American sized frags on one plug! ;)

I try to do about 20 frags off one species a day now. Gives me a nice break from all other work. Kind of a mediation pause.

The two tanks are in place!! Only took five people to get them there :)

Like I’ve said so many time before, always use as large sump as possible. Preferably larger than the display tank ;)

Edit. For all newcomers, this is just the temporary Aquarium. The new Aquarium is under construction, soon.

You guys are slackers. I was able to get the paint to dry with no outside help at all. ;Happy

I hate to interrupt your thread with a question about growing coral, but... I have a question.

I've been playing around with amino acids in my system and my early, poorly documented testing seems to be showing they make a big difference. Do you do anything to dose amino's in your tanks?

Finally a coral question! ;)

No, the coral holobiont do their own if nitrogen is available I think. But they probably take up amino acids from the water as well. So it might be a boost, perhaps more if the nitrogen in the tank is low.
It was a long time ago I tried adding amino acids.

Just got this message from my colleague
“Houston we have a larvae”
F59F8397-E6EB-4DC0-B777-5391C3FA49AC.jpeg

This is a 10 days old urchin larvae(Diadema setosum). Just around 30 more days to settlement:p
Before anyone thinks I’ve just taken an old picture from the web.. Our (pretty old) camera reset the date and time every time we turn it off. Therefore the incorrect date on the picture:)

It's more like Sputnik...
Was it intended to have little urchins?
They look so cool!
Yes, we’ve tried a couple of times to get them to spawn in buckets. Sometimes it’s easy, just get them into water with higher or lower temp. Sometimes nothing happens.. This time nothing happened when we tried the buckets, instead they started in the tanks the next day. So we collected gamets and mixed. Put that mix in different buckets and a jellyfish tank and feed them with phytoplankton.
I don’t think we will make it the whole way to settlement this time, but we need to practice and try different methods. And now we’ve kind of restarted in the temporary Aquarium, so we need new routines. And it’s good and fun training for our substitute:)

Sorry for the silence. Everything is going according to the plan(except when the archaeologists digs through the water supply pipes and shuts off the tapwater to the Aquarium for 24 hours.. :D).

We are currently working on the blueprints for the filter room for the large coral tank together with an engineer. The smaller pipes and filters we can manage ourselves, but these larger ones will be done by professionals.. :)

We are also working on a plan for all the smaller tanks. Both from biological aspect, what will fit where into the exhibit, and from the practical side.

We are also setting up a fun little project for sexual reproduction of corals. It’ll be a system controlled by GHL computers(thank you GHL for the discount!!). Streamers will be from Tunze, since they are compatible with GHL. Return pumps will be New Jet DC pumps, also controlled by GHL. All lights will be GHL, if things work out they way we’ve planned. Skimmer will be an old Deltec, but upgraded with their new DC skimmer pumps. We will use Triton Core7 and their other supplements for water parameters.
November was a shopping month :)
Now we are waiting for the equipment to arrive, so this is the tanks today. We do have a lot of PVC, so I did some pipe work today.
The tank will be totally covered to avoid light from the room the get into the tank.

Is that a white Vectra at the bottom of that picture? Doesn’t it look very similar to the Newjet DC?
That's an old Vectra pump. I was looking for a replacement pumps for the old Deltec skimmer and tested a couple of old pumps. They didn't fit that well, so yesterday I ordered new DC pumps directly from Deltec instead.
The New Jet DC pumps are on their way :)

The old P3.1T is just there for the moment - it will be a P4 later on - one of the goals with this project are to see how much we can control and record with a P4 and get some knowledge of Pros and Cons of the system. An ion director is also planned. The evil plan is to test and get knowledge how to construct the large controlling system of the new aquarium. Is not only the large coral system - is all other planned systems too

Sincerely Lasse

Many names for what your doing, when building a machine, ex. jet engines, then we mock up.
When trying to extract precious metals with chemicals, pilot plant. Before starting a big project....

God willing, 3-5years, we're (Backwoods Labs), going crowd funding,if we reach our goals, we're going to donate a fully operational 50 gallon tank, full of dendronephthya and Scleronephthya with other nps corals to an Aquarium Institution. After all expenses paid, what funds left, will be donated to that institution. Then we'll start over and do again, to a different institution. If God willing. We have you guys in mind.

Newjet DC pumps? Which are those? :) Can not find any info on them, or do you mean the Maxijet DC? https://www.aquariumsystems.fr/en/aquatic/electrical/maxijet-dc/

Looking pretty good!
Yes! You are right! Sorry. The same company that does the New Jets :) But these are called MaxiJet DC.
We run them as return pumps for the two coral systems in the temporary Aquarium and they have worked well so far. They are also controllable 1-10V, so we can connect them to GHL.
