Hello everyone, it a pleasure to be a member of reef2reef and this amazing community!
Thanks for having me!

My name is Steven and I live in switzerland. I used to have larger tansk back in the days (7 years ago) and was never really able to cut interest in this amazing hobby.
Thats why I had the idea to start a new project - the office 20g nano tank (used Red Sea Max Nano)

I wish to kind of create a mixed reef with mostly Zoa's and LPS - and I also wanna try some of the "easier" SPS if possible and if parameters are good enough.

Equipment I use:
- a used Red Sea Max Nano
- 5 kilograms of Carib Sea Rock Shapes (dry)
- 5 kilograms of Aqua Medic Sand (real sand) "fine"
- RODI water produced with my Aqua Medic Platinum Line
- ATI Absolute Ocean instead of salt
- Microbe Lift bottles bacs (to start the cycle)

Technic:
- everything will be original components. The only thing I did change is the return pump... I will use Aqua Medic DC Runner 9.2 Ultra Silent.
- I will add an extra powerhead: Tunze Nanostream 6040 (controllable) for some more fow.

System:
- I will try to manually dose ATI Nano Essentials (if needed) - I know using a dosing system would be much better. I just wait until I find a solution for that.

Timeline:

October 29, 2021:

- Cleaned the whole tank with citric acid - i found out that the tank has a small defect, the glass is a bit injured on the left side. I did fill up the tank in order to see if the tank is closed and has no leak. Everything works fine, the silicone is not injured and all good.
- Produced my 60 litres of RODI water.
- installed the tank in the office. Haven't installed electricity yet.

October 30, 2021:
- I will try to fill up the tank
- fill in my 5kg of sand
- add the dry rock.
- begin with bottled bac

Questions:
- Where would you guys suggest me to put the Tunze Nanostream 6040? I think it looks a bit "ugly" from the side... But I guess I have no other options to install it?

- Would you wash the sand again? It says the sand is already washed. But I am not sure..

So far so good..
I will try to keep you posted and I hope you guys can provide some input if you see some errors in my plans.

cheers,
steven

I will get the party started now! Need to wash my sand and my dry rock and the tank will be filled.

Lets hope everything works well for me.

30 October 2021:

- Sand rinsed in tap water, final rinse in RO water.
- Dry Rock rinsed the same
- Filled the tank with RO water and added the ATI Absolute Ocean. (61.6 litres RO water and 4,2 litres of ATI Absolute Ocean 1&2.
- Installed electricity and managed the cables.
- Everything works
- Waiting the water to have correct temperature.
- AI Prime schedule: Saxby X BRS AB+ calculated for a 45cm cube.

Questions:
- How would you arrange the Tune Nanostream 6040?
- Flow: How would you adjust?

Cheers,
Steven

This looks like a great start!!! I'm excited to follow along!!
Questions:
- How would you arrange the Tune Nanostream 6040?
- Flow: How would you adjust?
I actually am not all that familiar with the Tunze Nanostream pump (but I do know that Tunze makes excellent products!), but I do have a cube tank, so I can maybe help some. With the one powerhead, I think the position you have it in is good. I'd make sure that you get some good ripple on the water surface for good gas exchange. Keeping it on the opposite side from your return (as you have it placed) is a good idea because it will help prevent dead spots (by the way, that's going to be the main thing you watch out for with flow). For settings, I'd keep it set on a setting to create random flow patterns if you have that option.

Thanks for sharing your experience, appreciated!
Well, i think theres enough flow in the tank. Im only concerned with the tunze as it has some kind of „cap“ on it. That leads the flow to the right side(when you stand in front of the tank. Means the left side is a bit on the low flow side. But im not sure how to measure that tbh.

The tunze itself has some nice controllable things. Like you can keep it to „pulse“ every 10 seconds. Or it pauses for some short time. It kind of creates some waves.

So would you say the flow is enough to try a SPS one day?

Ok, temperature is 25 degrees celsius and salinity seems also to be good 1.025.

I think from now on its best just doing nothing and let it cycle.

Thank you bud!
Why did u change the skimmer? You think i'd need to change it too longterm?
I only will add a pair of clowns and maybe a Firefish.

Imo the tank is super silent (well i didnt turn on the skimmer yet) and my cirulation pump (Aqua Medic Ultra Silent DC Runner 1.2) is just quiet as hell.

What do you think in case of flow? Am I ok to bring in a seperate tunze there?

Ive seen on one spot the sand already got blown away :D in rhe bottom right corner when you sdtand in front of the tank.

Do you guys this light option (preset) is good for my plan with a mixed reef?
Zoa, lps and maybe some easy SPS.

Please feel free to share your experience. I highly appreciate it!

@Dana Riddle or @Waynerock Are you maybe able to help me / tag someone who can here?

Nobody told me that it was still September and not October yet… guys, please! :‘)

Well…

1 October 2021:

Checked some parameters:
kH: 9
po4: 0.01
nitrit: 0.003
Salinity: 1.025
temp: 25,1 degrees celsius

Any ideas on my light schedule?
I hope @Dana Riddle can help me out. Maybe @Daniel@R2R can help me tagging someone?

PAR at the bottom of the tank should be 150-200 or so. Of course it will be higher at the top, but should be OK. Photoperiod of 12 hours. Choose the spectrum of your choice - spectrum is of secondary importance to intensity (using any reef light.)

I appreciate that alot! Thanks for helping me out!
Would you say the schedule is ok and it isnt too much blue?
Im not sure if youre into the AI settings. But here is the pic again.
Well I kind of have no tool to check my PAR. The guy created this schedule is using it also for the same size cube.
But since this is just a mix of saxby and brs ab+ i wanted someone to double check that.

I run a 'daylight' spectrum for about 4 hours and then go to very blue (simply because I like to see the corals' fluorescence). I think you're fine. Just check the PAR.

Mate Yes Skimmer great fits perfect Tunze 9001 I tried other skimmer but Tunze has bigger cup its perfect and leaves room if you want to put reactor next to it next to the filter sock, My flow alot i have 2000lph return and also a MP10 on about half i had another MP10 but wetside broke and i dont think i need it anymore, My AI prime is pretty High schedule, only have 2x SPS and most Softies and few BTA which are huge all seems good. I went through all stages of GHA but seems everything going good now. Added some pics

Hello again

well thanks for that update, sounds interesting! I must say I have alot of mini bubbles in the water due to the fact that I forgot to put this sponge (bubble trap) between Skimmer and return pump.

Well, I need to fix that!

I might also install the tunze ATO because I cant see the original refill system working? Its like always same water level.. dunno on what stage (waterlevel) this refill system will begin to work.

thanks for the pics, looking good mate!
Congratz on that nice tank
