Hello again

well thanks for that update, sounds interesting! I must say I have alot of mini bubbles in the water due to the fact that I forgot to put this sponge (bubble trap) between Skimmer and return pump.

Well, I need to fix that!

I might also install the tunze ATO because I cant see the original refill system working? Its like always same water level.. dunno on what stage (waterlevel) this refill system will begin to work.

thanks for the pics, looking good mate!
Congratz on that nice tank

Thank you yes i dont think im running sponge, i have AutoAqua AWC as my ATO I usually setup Water changes when i go away other then that i dont use it at all. Ill get pic tonight where Tunze is.

Ok yeah im pretty curious now.
Can you also lemme know how you perform a water change? Do you shut off all the pumps and skimmer in order to do a water change? Or are you simply just pulling out water and then refill when everything still runs?

Hello everyone, it a pleasure to be a member of reef2reef and this amazing community!
Thanks for having me!

My name is Steven and I live in switzerland. I used to have larger tansk back in the days (7 years ago) and was never really able to cut interest in this amazing hobby.
Thats why I had the idea to start a new project - the office 20g nano tank (used Red Sea Max Nano)

I wish to kind of create a mixed reef with mostly Zoa's and LPS - and I also wanna try some of the "easier" SPS if possible and if parameters are good enough.

Equipment I use:
- a used Red Sea Max Nano
- 5 kilograms of Carib Sea Rock Shapes (dry)
- 5 kilograms of Aqua Medic Sand (real sand) "fine"
- RODI water produced with my Aqua Medic Platinum Line
- ATI Absolute Ocean instead of salt
- Microbe Lift bottles bacs (to start the cycle)

Technic:
- everything will be original components. The only thing I did change is the return pump... I will use Aqua Medic DC Runner 9.2 Ultra Silent.
- I will add an extra powerhead: Tunze Nanostream 6040 (controllable) for some more fow.

System:
- I will try to manually dose ATI Nano Essentials (if needed) - I know using a dosing system would be much better. I just wait until I find a solution for that.

Timeline:

October 29, 2021:

- Cleaned the whole tank with citric acid - i found out that the tank has a small defect, the glass is a bit injured on the left side. I did fill up the tank in order to see if the tank is closed and has no leak. Everything works fine, the silicone is not injured and all good.
- Produced my 60 litres of RODI water.
- installed the tank in the office. Haven't installed electricity yet.

October 30, 2021:
- I will try to fill up the tank
- fill in my 5kg of sand
- add the dry rock.
- begin with bottled bac

Questions:
- Where would you guys suggest me to put the Tunze Nanostream 6040? I think it looks a bit "ugly" from the side... But I guess I have no other options to install it?

- Would you wash the sand again? It says the sand is already washed. But I am not sure..

So far so good..
I will try to keep you posted and I hope you guys can provide some input if you see some errors in my plans.

cheers,
steven

Looks like a fun build!

Pumps, wavemakers, heaters, and skimmer should all be shut off during a water change, as they shouldn't run unless fully submerged.

Hello again

So, its day 10 and my reef is starting to get a bit ugly due to the ugly phase started a little on the sand (diatoms).

Well, the Pocillo looking good and tomorrow I‘ll add a pair of Clowns (from a guy cutting the hobby).

Salinity: 1.024
Temp: 24,5 degrees celsius
Alk/kH: 8.5
No3: 1.5
po4: 0.05
Ca: 460

Need to raise po4 a bit and hope the clowns will help.

Any thoughts?

well…

Update:

October 16, 2021:

Po4: 0.01
No3: 1
Ca: 410
Kh: 7.9
Salinity: 1.024

Ive added a few corals.. Ugly phase still ongoing. But Ive added a few more snails and 1 hermit.

My wife today surprised me.. with a „pair“ of grama loretto‘s. Well it looks like this aint a pair and the smaller is only hiding under a coral right now. Dunno what to do if im honest.

Update:

October 18, 2021:

PO4: 0.01
NO3: 2
KH: 7.7
Ca: 430 (dosed a bit)
Salinity: 1.024

What should I do to raise PO4? I just ordered some Phosphor (ATI Nutrients P) to raise it manually.
My Euphillya seem to suffer from the low PO4 I guess.

Ugly-phase still ongoing.

Well guys.. Here a little update..

I seem to struggle a bit with diatom and I honestly dont know why. (I might need to test my RODI water maybe)
I also have no idea how to clean my backwall (maybe someone has a suggestion?)

Well guys now the tank is running for 1.5 months and I do still have some diatoms left and unwanted algae.
Nevertheless, my corals are doing well and I've received alot of nice frags from a very kind and nice reefer in my area.

He handed me some special frags to "test" them out. So far everything looks good and I hope it will do so in future!
