Hey, so I'm upgrading the light on my red sea max nano from the stock Red Sea 50 to a Radion G5 XR-15 Blue. Right now my peak settings on the red sea light are 77% blue and 10% white. Does anyone know what % this translates to on the Radion? Assuming I have all colors at 100% and just adjusted overall power.

The XR15 G5 Blue was built around the AB+ spectrum. If you want it run the AB+ spectrum then you keep all channels at 100 percent and adjust the intensity. They also have other schedules that you can use.

I have 4 XR15 G5 Blues installed on my hybrid.

Are you looking to match intensity or look? If intensity then a Par meter will likely be needed.

I'm curious if you're going to miss the shimmer, let me know.
(Because the RedSea has almost Kessil like shimmer and the Radions almost none)

If you’re running your Red Sea 50 at 77% I’d start your xr-15 at about 35-40% and work up from there. The 50 is half the power of the xr-15, but it will also depend on how high you’re running the light. A par meter is your best bet, or maybe compare the par numbers from BRS videos on the lights.

Thank you appreciate the advice! And will let you know Harold. Setting it up tomorrow, but I held it above the tank last night to just see what it would look like and the spread is clearly so much better. Almost blinded myself plugging it in downside up though. Definitely much much less shimmer if any.

Took the advice and ended up using a lux meter app on my iPhone. Got a reading of 395 with the red sea and now keeping the new Radion at 380 (35%) since the spread is better and don't want to disturb my low light corals. Everything seems happy so far, thanks everyone!

Now that you have seen the Radion for a couple of days, are you happy with the amount of shimmer or missing the RS50 on that aspect?

I missed the shimmer the first day, but now I'm very happy with it. The only issue I guess is looking at the tank has more of a (looking at the sun) effect than the red sea, and it's also a little difficult to look down into the tank since the lights reflection off the water is so intense. Overall very happy I switched, the tank looks phenomenal when under 100% royal at night.

I am in the same boat!! I just ordered a XR15 G5 Blue for my 20G lps and softie tank with plans to upgrade to a red sea 200XL from BRS. I have watched Randy's video on BRS 50 times to try and determine a good intensity to set it at for the 20G for now with a defuser on it. I'm speculating maybe around 35% on that 20G not to blast my Dragon Torch and others to oblivion.

What are your thoughts on that??

Do u still have the Red Sea leds if so maybe get a kilowatt and see how many watts they pull at your Red Sea setting and match that to the xr15

I just got a XR15 Pro on a 15G nano. I have it mounted at 6" above the water surface and have it set at AB+ and 40% schedule. (that 40% is 40% of the AB+ schedule so not actual 40% of 100 but 40% of 80 as that is the normal peakpower of the AB+ preset).
In this case i get around 100 par at the sandbed, 180 halfway, +200 higher up.

Btw, one big con of such a powerfull light on a nano running on lower intensities: the fan is always off, ultraquiet. :)

No worries. So there are 3D printed mounting options to put it on the back. However, my tank is against a wall so I can't set that up, so mine is just on the side of the tank.
